Yes, we are having a fly-in! It will be in Davenport Iowa (KDVN) the weekend of 16-18 September 2016. So make your plans now to attend!!
A block of rooms has been reserved at the Quality Inn in Davenport (under the approach for runway 33 - so it's close!). The room rate is $79.99 per night for up to two adults (so $40/night per person). I explained the weather issue and they have agreed to no modification or cancellation penalty. I will include their email to me below, but to reserve a room you need to call the hotel directly at 563-386-8336 and ask for the "Quickie Builders" block. I need to release the unclaimed rooms by 02 September, so if you think you are coming, please book now!
Flying - KDVN is on the north side of a class C airspace. As long as you stay clear of their airspace, you do not need to call Quad City Approach. But they are nice folks, so don't feel bad about calling them! We have two runways, 4000' and 5500' both 100 feet wide, so there should be no problem landing a Quickie! I bought self service fuel today for $4.00/gallon which is very reasonable for the area.
Driving - KDVN is just north of Interstate 80 at exit 295. We are about a three hour drive west from Chicago - an easy drive once you get out of the Chicago traffic!
Airlines - The closest airport with commercial service is Moline Illinois (KMLI) which is the above mentioned "Quad City Approach". So it is very close! Other options are KCID (~1 hour drive), KRFD (~1.5 hour drive), or KMDW/KORD which are both about a 3 hour drive.
So what else do you need to know? If you've got questions, post them on the list, or send them to me directly and I'll get you an answer. I'll post more info as we get closer.
