I read about the Amsoil Racer. It seems odd to attempt speed records, it raced in the 1000#-2000# takeoff weight. I would think it should have been well under 1000#. It set a 235 mph in a 75 mile closed course record. I will look at the specs.

I forgot about this little gem until I rewatched the Mike Arnold AR-5 special on YouTube last night:

NASA TP-2256 Natural Laminar Flow Experiments on Modern Airplane Surfaces

This report includes flight tests of several airplanes, including the VariEze, Long-EZ, and "Laser Biplane Racer". Otherwise known as the AMS/OIL racer ;)

"Rutan Laser Biplane Racer.- A single-place biplane with large negative-stagger and a tractor-propeller (figs. 7 and 8) was tested in flight. Detailed physical characteristics of the airplane are shown in table 7. The wing airfoil design coordinates are given in table 8."

For those unaware, Mike Arnold's family posted all of his old VHS tapes onto YouTube in his honor after his passing... Absolutely amazing stuff on homebuilt composites and low drag aircraft design/modification:
