David,

The small cameras we bought (Like Jon Finnley's) on ebay earlier this
year had pretty lousy resolution. I tried one but shitcanned the idea
until something better appears. Thats probably why you haven't seen or
heard more about it. I've got one do you want it?

Jim Patillo

Mike,
It might be a good deal, but check the "0" feedback, and the shipper is in Hong Kong. And the shipping and insurance is more than the camera. I'd wait 'til his feedback hit 30 or 40 before I'd buy. Let us know how it works out if you get one.

Thanks Damian. Now I can make the new exhaust system 4 into one. Guess I
will have to shorten the oil tank also to gain some more space. Wonder if
anyone has made one out of carbon fibre, the temp the oil gets should not
hurt the tank. Need to do some more checking on that though. Had a good day
on the plenums, Last thing I did today was to foam up the both cowlings. By
next week I can form them around the plenums. This turned into more work
than I wanted to do. Can't stop now though.

Hi all, does anyone have in their Q pile leftovers 2 - 0200 exhaust flanges
with the short piece of 1.5" diameter pipe on it. My exhaust had 2 on the
pipes that were on the engine and I need 2 more, I am making a new set of
pipes that will go 4 into 1 out the center, once I get this done I will
have a set of stock pipes for the 0200 that have just been ceramic coated
left over.

Still dancing, one step forward and two steps backward.

SAA

Patrick Panzera <panzera@...>

I'm sorry if you receive multiple copies of this, as I'm sending this out to
every e-mail list I belong to.

I BEG that you do likewise, as there is a real concern here. This is not spam
nor any form of chain letter.

I belong to several Experimental Aviation e-mail lists and have, throughout the
years, heard a common complaint that the the EAA is not supporting Experimental
Aviation like we would expect it to.

But there is another organization out there, the SAA, that IS doing as EAA use
to do. Like the EAA, the SAA was founded by Paul Poberezny (who is currently the
President), and is a "grass roots" experimental aviation resource.

http://www.sportaviation.org/

Over the past weekend I heard a rumor that they might be shutting down, due to
lack of interest.

I sent them an e-mail and here's part of the reply:

(my question was specific to renewal)

"The Board will be meeting next month to determine the future direction of the
organization. Until that final decision has been made, we have elected not to
accept any renewals for 2006."

So if I may be so bold, it's time for us to collectively to PUT-UP OR SHUT THE
HECK UP!

If you are a current member, please send a letter of support and recruit 5 new
members, today!

If you are NOT a member, then BECOME ONE!!! RIGHT NOW!!! There's no excuse.

The infrastructure is in place. The staff is on-board. Everything is in place
for the SAA to be everything you want or need it to be. The ONLY thing lacking
is YOUR SUPPORT!.

Without your support, SAA may be gone, soon. Although I'm a loyal member of the
EAA and feel that the direction they are taking is beneficial to general
aviation as well as sport aviation and SP/LSA (and they certainly have my
support with all of that), their return to grass-roots Experimental Aviation is
just not going to happen, no matter how many letters we send.

If we want to belong to an organization that's dedicated to people like you,
building stuff with your own hands, in your own garage, even if it's just
dreaming about taking on such a project, it's time to stop complaining about the
EAA and actually DO SOMETHING!!!

Larry, I would be careful about using lamp thread tubes, be sure to check
the structural properties for that. There is quite a shear load on that
when landing, (at least my landings). If I were going that way and did not
go for the Cessna axles with Cleveland wheels and brakes I would go with
4130 and thread it accordingly. Now there is some advice from a non Q pilot,
so take it with a grain of salt. Just only about 400 years of dealing with
structural things. Ha-Ha.

The Coughlin brake mod is shown on page 9 of Q-Talk #27, May/June 1991. I
believe this brake mod is much better than the LaRue, which was much better
than the QAC plans brake mount. I can say this, because I have used all
three in my aircraft.
For the threaded tubes, I used 3/8" threaded rod (fine thread), which was
chucked on a lathe and drilled to accommodate the ¼" bolt.
I found that one can adapt easier by purchasing lamp fitting threaded tubes
and nuts. They are 3/8 - 27 (1/8 pipe) - available cheap.
My biggest problem was a vertical taping. I may just use lock washers and
the nuts to lock the threaded tubes in place.

Re: Coughlin brake mount - was LaRue Brake mod

Jim Patillo

Larry,

You may want to take a closer look at my LaRue Mod shown in the
files to the left listed under Jim Patillo/brakes. The caliper/pucks
are floating on four points so that the caliper slides horizontally/
smoothly to grip the disc without cocking. I used 4 stainless
shoulder bolts (from the hardware store)and cut the threads off,
then cut the shoulder to length. I then tapped the bolt heads and
inserted fairly large threaded rod (locktite) to join the two bolts
together. They can then be tightened together using the bolt heads.
Since the pictures were taken I've installed bronze hat bushings in
the aluminum plates so the stainless shaft slides even better with
little to no wear. This appears to be a beafier version of the
Coughlin Mod. I've had this mod installed for several years and it
works perfectly and creats no noise (the kind you ususally hear with
the standard brake.

Re: Coughlin brake mount - was LaRue Brake mod

damiantwinsport@...

Larry , what you are trying to acheive here is a "floating caliper mount"we discussed this on the phone. If the material is too soft when you hit the binders or when theyare dloating and vibrating the caliper may just form a groove that it will reside in, negating the effect you are trying to overcome.

I do not understand. I believe that the shear (on the standard Q2 setup)
would be the weight of the caliper/2 X the G loading. Not a major factor.
