Re: First run - G-CUIK's motor.

Peter Harris <peterjfharris@...>

Chris just happened to be reading through my run in notes and there will be a specific program for the rebuilt engine . If run in the airframe special arrangements for cooling and use of non compounded AV oil like aero shell 100 and short bursts of high power, etc blah blah.
The first 25 hrs flying work it hard mostly at 75% power still using the Aero shell 100 or equivalent, and checking CH bolts and tappets periodically all spelled out by the manufacturer. Very boring but it beds the rings in and does not allow them to glaze. After 25 hours can use better compounded oil like aero shell W100 or aero shell 15W50 or equivalent.
I found oil pressure when cranking with the plugs removed before start.

Guys, ran my C90/ O-200 hybrid motor today for the first time in probably 20 years - I built it from a box of bits and re-conditioned as necessary. Took some time as it's hand swing - aching muscles and back now.....!

Ran for 30 seconds or so; no oil pressure showed on the Westach gauge and the p-lead switch wouldn't stop it, so cut the fuel. 3 steps forward, one or two (not sure) back; got some investigating to do. Does anyone know whether 30 seconds plus is unusual? I primed the oil lines and filter a week ago by swinging the prop with the spark plugs out. I'll make sure there's oil in the lines etc before I try again, but someone's comments would be useful - never run a re-built Continental before. I'll check all connections before trying again.
Thanks all.

Guys,
I am looking for those little retainer pieces that you can attach to the
blind side of a panel (i.e. firewall) that the head of a bolt can fit in to
keep if from turning while you spin the nut on from the other side. Like the
ones used to hold the engine mounting bolts from turning - only I need them
for a 1/4" bolt. I must not know what to call them, because I can't find
anybody that sells them. Any help please.

Thanks
Lynn

If I'm thinking about the same thing.............

How about making your own? Cut out some autobody sheet metal, or any other
easily formable metal in the shape and size needed. Get a cheap bolt with
the size head you need to hold and an old 6 point socket 1/8 inch larger.
Put the metal on top of the socket and hammer the bolt into it. Fold/drill
as needed after the forming.

Are you talking about a nut plate?

There are various types. 1/4" would be rather large.

Please don´t think that I didn`t want to purchase the plans that
David sell, i think that is very cheap and i have not purchase them
because i was waiting the answer, now i will. i was asking if
someone could send me a more complete plans to work while i'm
waiting david's plans and the problem is that now i have vacations
but david's plans will arrive to Chile after my vacations(that says
in www.quickiesource.com), but i will work with the plans that i
have because as david said, the plans have full size patterns and i
must respet David's work selling the plans on CD that i think that
is ok( i insist, it wasn't my intention to not purchase your plans
because they are the only perfectly scaned to use them).
sorry to all

I will not email the plans to you due to the file sizes
involved and because
that is not how I choose to sell my product. To sell that way
would make it
far too easy for friends to simply forward that email to each
other and then I
would never sell another CD. I spent real money to put together
the CD product
and I don't care to give it away that way. And the file size
issue is real:
most email inboxes are limited to several tens of megabytes, and
the contents
of the CD would fill your mailbox many times over. The logistics
of breaking
down the contents into small enough chunks and coordinating the
emptying of
your e-mailbox in anticipation of the next load is not a task I
choose to
undertake. I did not respond to your request because I
considered the request
to be ridiculous and immature.

If you had sent payment for the CD when you asked for me to
email the plans
to you two months ago, you would already have had the CD in your
posession by
now. Stop asking people to hurry up your project for you. You
are only
delaying yourself.

Re: quickie plans

JohntenHave <Jtenhave@...>

Panchotto,

nice try but no cigar! May I suggest that David's price is too cheap
and that you are making the mistake of confusing cost with value. Pay
him the money. I would not do what he has done for the price so I
conclude that there is a fair bit of gratis gifting of IP to
community included in the product - which makes your attempt to
backdoor him all the more galling ( oops sorry David ;-)) Ditto, I
suspect for Leon's work.

May I also suggest that if you are quibbling about the cost of the
plans, don't start the project because it ain't cheap.

Secondly if you are concerned about two months delay, don't start the
project because they are not quick to build.

Thirdly, if he says they are too big to Email, listen to him. It is
not rocket science.

Reality check needed here I suspect.

Pay the money, get on with the job, and let us help you finish the
thing. It is hard enough without tripping yourself up on the mat
outside the door..

John

I will not email the plans to you due to the file sizes involved and because
that is not how I choose to sell my product. To sell that way would make it
far too easy for friends to simply forward that email to each other and then I
would never sell another CD. I spent real money to put together the CD product
and I don't care to give it away that way. And the file size issue is real:
most email inboxes are limited to several tens of megabytes, and the contents
of the CD would fill your mailbox many times over. The logistics of breaking
down the contents into small enough chunks and coordinating the emptying of
your e-mailbox in anticipation of the next load is not a task I choose to
undertake. I did not respond to your request because I considered the request
to be ridiculous and immature.

If you had sent payment for the CD when you asked for me to email the plans
to you two months ago, you would already have had the CD in your posession by
now. Stop asking people to hurry up your project for you. You are only
delaying yourself.

Re: Goin around!

James Postma <james@...>

Hi Jim,

All three of my Q's are grounded at this time.
One for fuel-in-the foam.
One for a busted LS-1 spar.
Frank Follmers busted Q200.
So unfortunately I cannot demo short landings at this time. If you like, I
will come down and modify yours.

I've made short landings at CNO and 1S0 which were my home fields.

I have 110 hours in Q's.

I have not done any landings with the VG's at high gross weights, but I
expect the same results.

I consider this to be the most revolutionary thing in Q land and one of my
finest engineering achievements. But it is not unique to me. There are at
least two companies selling VG kits out there, mostly for certified
aircraft. Microaerodynamics has a kit for the Long-Ezy similar to mine with
similar results. This gave me the courage to try it. I have about 10
postings on the list on this subject so it is not new news.

You won't believe the improvement in controllability. I can fly with full
aft stick and full control in all axis at bank angles up to 45 degrees.
I've demonstrated slow Dutch rolls at 10 feet AGL. It works as well at high
angles-of-attack at higher speeds. I was doing three g pull-ups until Steve
K found that there was no foam in my center canard section. So I don't do
this anymore until it is fixed.

James,

I'm loosing count. Do you have a flying Q at this point or not? And
How many runways have you made in under 2,000' with that mod. How
many hours PIC do have you in your Q's?

That is short for a Q and if you have proven it out would make quite
a difference for a lot of Q drivers. My personal minimum is 2,600'
with two people. BTW adding a pax can increase the landing distance
quite a bit.

Regards,
Jim Patillo
