Spring Fling 06

Keith Welsh <kfly@...>

All:

We have a person with a Q2 in the box, never started, and is willing to bring it to the Spring Fling in Casey if there is interest. Below is the info on the kit.

If anyone is interested let me know ASAP as they will need to know to justify bringing it.

1. The kit was never started and is still in the boxes that it came in.
2. It is complete, with the following extras;

* graphite spars for the NASA LS mod
* hydraulic brake kit
* engine oil sump drain assembly
* geared electric starter
* prefabricated fuel tank
* communication radio antenna kit
* navigation radio antenna kit

3. all the required paperwork is there; materials list, construction
manuals and drawings plus a number of the Quick talk news letters.
4. the serial no. is 2369
5. the engine is a Revmaster 2100-D

It was purchased it in 1981 for $12,482. with all the extras.

Wait a minute, if I remember right about the Q-2's with the mags recessed in the firewall, the engine comes off to do what's minor on most. Right?

Keith

New engine

Darrell Daniels <log@...>

Well I guess my Tri-Q is closer to flying now. This weekend I flew out to Casper and purchased a 75 hp Revmaster engine from Paul Spackman.
I wanted to write this to think Paul for his wonderful hospitality. We flew from Missouri in turbulence that could only be described as the flight from hell, it was rough. After arriving At Casper it was all up hill. Paul met us at his hanger and helped load the engine and extra parts he graciously threw in. After that he put my friends airplane in his hanger for the night , Took us to a motel and then came back with his wife and took us out to a wonderful dinner. The next morning Paul came to the hotel at 5 am and took us back to the airport and helped us get underway. What a wonderful person and I wanted to thank him publicly . THANKS AGAIN PAUL
If you were wondering Paul on the way back we had a hour and a half of good weather then came the turbulence and some rain and more turbulence but we managed to stay on the edge and get around it just past Lincoln and turned for home and showing 104 nautical mph on the gps all the way home. If anybody is passing near Huntsville, AL on his or her way to Spring
Fling; I'd be happy to buy you a tank of gas for some drooling time if
you'd like to stop in. Here I am building my own and I've yet to even
sit on one :O)

Thanks :O)

Doug,

there is a huge amount of information on the airsoob and other related yahoo groups. He would be well advised to familiarise himself with these groups.

Many years ago there was a split into two groups due to some titanic size ego issues ( hard to believe in the aviation community - I know) so it is best to join both.

Doug,

there is a huge amount of information on the airsoob and other related yahoo groups. He would be well advised to familiarise himself with these groups.

Many years ago there was a split into two groups due to some titanic size ego issues ( hard to believe in the aviation community - I know) so it is best to join both.

Re: Sport pilot medical

Leon - C <leon@...>

Can't give you anymore details. I was just passing along the info I found. I - assume - that you need the N-number of a real plane (look on Barnstormers for one for sale) and beginning and end points. I also assume that you don't actually need to own the plane as you could just say you were bringing it to your IA for a pre-purchase inspection. And if the weather - happened - to be bad and the flight had to be scrubbed, or the plane got sold/removed from the market before the intended flight............................

If you medical has been out of force for too long you might also have to arrange for a BFR to be completely legal to get the permit?

More details please. I am not familiar with the
ferry request. Do I need to provide the
identification of the aircraft I am supposed to be
ferrying? Do I need the start and endpoint airport
identifiers? Do I actually need to own the plane I
am requesting the ferry medical for?

Thanks!

Hello everyone:

We are two weekends away from the Quickie / Dragonfly spring fly-in at the Casey Airport in Casey, IL.
The airport is ready and it looks like we will have a very nice executive hangar to ourselves.....
just as soon as the girl softball team removes their batting cage and netting. Their season is over and the hangar is being cleaned out.
Sandy and Howie are looking forward to seeing and looking over the Q's and D's from a mechanics point of view.
Also if you wouldn't mind I'd like to begin to get a rough idea of how many of you to expect for making reservations at Richards Farm for a private room for the Friday evening meal. Just drop me a note on the LIST or send to kfly@...

Ran across this on another list and thought I'd pass
it along - even though
it isnt' really relevant to Q pilots. It may be no
mor than "urban legand"
but might be worth checking into for those that
might be in need.

---------------------------------
Last year the FAA presented details of the medical
rules at the
Illinois Safety Seminar in Springfield.

Here is a key item. If your last medical was not
cancelled, you can
then use your drivers license. And is here the way
around your last
cancellation per the FAA. Request a single flight
medical for a ferry
flight of a short distance. Almost always granted.
Now your last
medical is not a failure. You dont need to actually
make the flight,
just have permission.

Your request of course would be for a single flight,
VFR, no
passengers, etc so there is no danger to anyone.

Hello again:

Welsh here, I forgot to mention that info on the airport, hotels, camping etc... and be found at by visiting the QBA web site on the events page.

See ya then

Spring Fling 06

Keith Welsh <kfly@...>

Hello again everyone:

As we approach the final weekend before the 2006 Spring Fling Tandem Wing Fly-in at the Casey Airport in Casey IL I wanted to bring you up to date with what's been going on and welcome you all to this years event.

I was able to inspect the hangar facility that we will be using. It has been vacated for about 10 years (since the judge who owned it got throwed in jail) and used for various other purposes, girls softball bating practice and storage. It is very nice on the inside with a great painted floor which can store approx. 10 Q's with no trouble.
It has an air conditioned carpeted office area with full restroom and bath facilities. This will be the base of our operations. Anyone who wishes to set up house keeping there for the weekend is welcomed to do so.

FRIDAY: Arrivals, evening meal at Richards Farm.
I have made arrangements for us to enjoy the atmosphere at Richards Farm restaurant in Casey, about a mile from the airport. Richards Farm is a large barn that has been owned by the Richards family since the 1930's. It was converted into a restaurant many years ago and has experienced steady growth and popularity since. The old barn atmosphere is everywhere and includes a gift shop for the gals. We will be dining in the loft area where you can order from the menu or have the buffet which is $16.95. I will need to give them an approx head count by Wednesday. Right now we look to be somewhere around 12 to 15. So for those of you who haven't called or if you know of someone who plans to attend be sure to let me know.

SATURDAY:
Saturday will be our busy day with the condition inspection forum, by Sam Hoskiins, lunch on the grill and pizza that evening AND plenty of flying. Now all we need is for the weather gods to come through. Sandy and Howie (FBO owners) will be available to answer any aeronautical mechanical questions you may have. They run a first rate shop and have many years experience with GA aircraft.

SUNDAY:
Good by's and departures.

Thanks and we hope to see you next weekend.
Your host Keith Welsh
