Flight planning software

For fligh planning I use DUATS GoldenEagle FlightPrep. It goes online and gets the wind, shows TFR's, Class B, terrain, lets you pick the best altitude based on the winds, overlays the weather and TFR's on a Chart. You input your airplane characteristics and it figures out the flight time and fills in a flight plan. You can save your flight plans for future use. Best of all it's FREE for the VFR version! It is a bit tricky to setup (helpdesk at 1-800-345-3828) and has a somewhat high learning curve to use but overall a great tool. You need a DUATS account which is free at http://www.duats.com/ Get the Free Gloden Eagle software at http://www.duats.com/cirrus.shtml Fly Safe, Mike Q200 N3QP

I called this morning to see about the tires. I got Bruce@ Abillity Access(the owner)on the first try. He said to call his cell:510-266-2141 or office:209-239-3800. He has lots of tires! Be careful of the gray tires, there may be an issue as they are for Quickie Wheelchairs" not Quickie Airplanes. Regards, Jim

I have found some tires with the C154 tread, the website says they are Cheng Shin. These are tires like the ones supplied with the kit; 4.00 x 5, 4-ply. When I received them they are branded with some other name and were painted grey for the scooter market but appear to be just fine. I tried contacting the source that Jim P and others suggested but the person that knew anything about them did not return my calls or email.

Re: Q-200 right thrust / down thrust question
Fisher Paul A. <fisherpaula@...>
It was my intention to follow the plans, and I thought that said to put a washer on the left (pilot) side to give it right offset. I'd have to go pull the cowl to be sure though (it was a LONG time ago!!). As Bruce stated, the engine will rub on the left side of the cowl, so a little right offset is a good thing.

I wouldn't spend too much time analyzing it, just put it together and enjoy it. Hopefully you and Jay are learning that these planes are not build to tolerances of 1mm or 0.1 degrees. We built them by hand and did the best we could, and they all work. Some may be "better" than others, but I KNOW mine is "better" than anyone who hasn't finished because mine is flying! You have to consider that these are handbuilt, individual, airplanes and, as such, all will be different due to building and alignment errors/techniques. Therefore you can't just copy what others have done regarding number of washers and their placement; you will have to build in the sidethrust (and downthrust) as accurately as you can, regardless of the number of washers that others have used, and see how she flies, adjusting as necessary. However, I think that your real question was about the discrepancy in the plans. I would go for both sidethrust and downthrust. regards Paul Buckley Cheshire, England Embryo TriQ-200

Jerry's article in Q-Talk #117 provides a thorough method to overcome any error in firewall alignment. I intend to use this approach, with some minor changes, to verify true firewall alignment. However, my takeaway from this exercise is that, as long as the alignment is not too far off, the planes performance does not appear to be too sensitive to thrustline setup, as evidenced by the slight variations in thrustline setups on airplanes noted earlier. Thanks Sanjay _____ From: Q-LIST@... [mailto:Q-LIST@...] On Behalf Of MartinErni@... Sent: Thursday, October 15, 2009 10:55 PM To: Q-LIST@... Subject: Re: [Q-LIST] Q-200 right thrust / down thrust question Sanjay, Keep in mind that the method in Jerry's article makes sure the engine is set up correctly in relation to the fuselage and not the firewall. If your firewall is perfect then you can just count washers, but if it isn't you will not know where the engine is pointing. The full blown fuselage alignment will insure that the engine is pulling the airframe exactly where you want. Earnest

Mine 0200 engine is shimmed 1 degree right only. I used about a 1/16" washer on top and bottom pilot side only! At close to 1000 hours, I would have to say it works. Course I don't speak for anyone but myself. Jim Patillo

Sanjay, Keep in mind that the method in Jerry's article makes sure the

engine is set up correctly in relation to the fuselage and not the firewall. If your firewall is perfect then you can just count washers, but if it isn't you will not know where the engine is pointing. The full blown fuselage alignment will insure that the engine is pulling the airframe exactly where you want. Earnest

To summarize, I have looked through the Q-Talk #117 article authored by Jerry Marstall which states the need for "1 degree down and 1 degree to the right". Lynn's setup with 3 washers at top-left, 1 washer at top-right and 2 washers at bottom-left seems to confirm this, but has a slight bias for right thrust. Jim's setup with a single 1/16" washer at top-left and bottom-left provides for a 1 degree right thrust only. And both these airplanes seem to fly hands off. So I would conclude from these few data points that it is less sensitive to presence or absence of down-thrust ...assuming the firewall has no error in its setup. thanks Sanjay _____ From: _Q-LIST@...
