Spring Fling
Kevin Boddicker
Listers,
Once again spring is approaching. I has been very nice here the last few days. I even committed aviation yesterday. The Spring Fling is just 60 days hence. I have struck a deal with one motel in Decorah. The Country Inn & Suites has agreed to block 15 rooms for our fly in. Not cheap, however a very nice place. Includes a full breakfast, pool, exercise room etc. Enough with the commercial. The rate is $99.95 per weekend night, but I got it discounted to $85. The phone number is 563-382-9646. Ask for the Tandem Wing Spring Fling rate. The room block will be held until filled, or the 10th of May. Their normal cancelation policy is 48 hours, again due to my excellent bargaining skills, our group can cancel as late as 6:00 PM date of arrival. I know it's a bit pricy, but the whole town is that way. There are other accommodations in DEH, and anyone can feel free to make their own reservations elsewhere. You will hurt my feelings not. Super 8 563-382-8771(so so), Heartland Inn 563-382-2269 (under some renovations), Hotel Winneshiek 563-382-4164 (VERY PRICY), Bluffs Inn (kinda dusty). Camping of a primitive nature will be allowed on the airport grounds too. I had told Day Yager that I would get the info up on a page at his site, but I am not going to be able to get that done. So if you need more info on these motels google it up yourself! ;>))))) Get your reservations in and fly or drive to NE Iowa for a good time. The Spring Fling, be there or be square! Kevin Boddicker TriQ 200 N7868B 157.8 hrs Luana, IA. P.S. Phil Christiansen, could you please forward this to the Dragonfly list?

I discovered I didn't have the stiffeners over my canard until 300 hours, lucky me! Glad you saw it now. In my case, when I decided to switch from stock and build an LS1 Q200, I missed that part. I have (2)3/16"T x 1 1-2"W (marine plywood)bi-directional glass covered stiffeners on the firewall running from fuselage (equally spaced)to mag box on both sides. Also(1)3/8"T x 2"W (white foam) bi-directional glass covered stiffeners running from spar (centered over carbon spar)to header tank both sides. Regards, Jim Q200 N46JP

There is a picture of my Q235 stiffeners in the G-BXOY photo album on this list, which are similar. The plans Q200 are 1/8" aircraft grade ply two bid at 45 bias, 2"over lap to firewall. I think if you trawl through Sam Hoskins Blog around picture 100_4451 to 100_4454 should tell you all you need to know. Sam's look like 1/4" so may be foam? Mine are foam and so either way should be OK. New to the group
n355tc <n355tc@...>
Hi everyone, I am new to this group and come with enthusiasm for the design. My dad built a Dragonfly when I was a kid. I am currently flying a Glastar that my dad and I built. My dad and I are currently building a Skybolt, and when that is done I want to build or re-build/finish a really hot Q-200. I would like to hang around the list and learn what I can while I look for the right deal on a project plane. If someone knows of a Q-200 project that is worth looking at, or a kit at a reasonable price I would love to know about it. I live in Pittsburgh, Pa. but I can get around for the right opportunity.

some hardware stores. For years I used gray Anti-seize for my torque tubes and it worked just fine. Kind of messy, though. Sam On Mon, Mar 15, 2010 at 4:45 PM, Mike Perry <dmperry1012@att.net> wrote:

Anti-Seize and WD-40
Mike Perry
Hello:
I was on the road last week, now reading back postings. The discussion on WD-40 and Anti-Seize compounds caught my eye. I understand WD-40 (and many other petroleum based products) can prevent fiberglass adhesion. I also know petroleum products can dissolve foam, and many anti-seize products are petroleum based. Based n those issues, what is the best product for our purposes? Do we use a different product around foam (eg: torque tubes) and in front of the firewall (sparkplugs)? Thanks for any ideas and esp. experience -- Mike Perry

Getting Stiffner

I have, better late than never, realized that I need "vertical stiffners" on the inside of the firewall on my Q-200 project. There are no drawings, templates etc that came with my paperwork and short of spending $20. for a complete set of templates, can someone point me to a picture or description of what was called out in the Q-200 plans?
Thanks for your help. Jerry Brinkerhuff Q-200 planning on flying it in 2010

In my humble opinion, no WD-40 on my airplane, oil on linkages sparingly, do not over grease bearings ( a little dab will do it, more will retain heat. Dissimilar metal junctions a dab of anti-seize. Metals that gall Al, SS a dab of anti-seize. No hydrocarbon spray over styro-foam cores even painted ones. Soap designed for high end cars or airplanes. No Windex or ammonia products on the canopy. Bugs, mist with water/one drop soap, wait 2 mins, wipe with micro-fiber cloths from Costco. Regards, Charlie Johnson Ogden, UT

Re: Finley Power Failure - Cause- RWS mounting issues.
Michael Quinn
I am thinking about selling mine as life has got in the way of life... (long story)
It is complete with two canopy (one clear the other smoked). I started putting the fuselage together and have all 4 parts together (need tape and glass on the inside - so you can 50% see the seams - which were very challenging to get right. Have a very stout build table and jigs for the fuselage and wings. I have all the plans (I donated the full size scanned plans to what you see on q-list site if you buy them (they are rearranged by the Dan (site owner and current president) to fit on E size paper))). I have all the old news letters, original plans, and two copies (one soft). Foam has never been cut and I have all the hardware, loop main and nose wheel (minus the strut). Extra wheels and brakes for the original setup. Exhaust for O-200 and cowl. I am located in Charlotte, NC. Make me an offer if your are really interested. I want to finish it and have no reason to sell it - other than to have someone else more able to finish it, do so. M. If you really want to improve anything over what I did (excluding the error), install the EC2 in a location that is not so hard to inspect.
