I'm pretty sure that paint shops wouldn't appreciate having that stuff any
closer than 20 miles away.

Rudder Trim

Bruce Crain

Jerry you were spot on to cant your vertical a bit to offset for rudder anomalies. I built a rudder trim for my TriQ200 with bungees to both rudder cables into the luggage compartment back past the split line on the fuz.I lined the rudder up with the bungees and the Ray Allen servo so that the rudder was trailing edge even with the tail of the aircraft. When I flew it I could not get the servo to go far enough to the right to make her fly straight. When I looked back after landing and leaving the servo completely to the stop for right rudder the rudder was some what to the right. So I adjusted the bungees more to the right and went and flew it again. This time I was able to trim it for neutral yaw and landed to look at the setting required. The rudder is pulled mostly to the right with a little more to go before hitting the stop. Granted the relative wind (because of the bungees) has a large play in pushing the rudder back to the left while in flight but when on the ground it looks like the TriQ is going to fly in a hard right yaw. I will fly it again this weekend to see if it trims out like the last flight. The nose gear may or may not be effecting the yaw by the way the Q is pulled of the ground for take off.If it flies the same as the last flight then I would surmise that the vertical stab needs to be canted to the left in front.I can now fly hands off while trimming the roll to level. Not sure the rudder trim is really worth the effort at this point. Will need to fly it more to see if it really takes a lot off of the effort to keep her straight. I don't remember how the tail wheel Q200 flew for yaw. Is the tail dragger neutral for yaw guys? Is this a quirk for the TriQ only?CiaoBruce

Hello Shalon, I'm not sure what you are after here but some of us do also belong to the Dragonfly group. I know Jeff has removed you from there for the feeling of something shady going on, I hope this is not the same attempt on this group. As far as Quickheads goes if it was not for the efforts Dan has put forth much of the info on the Q's would be lost. Please use a little causion as far as I know everybdy in this group has a great respect for him and his helpfull efforts.

Shalon,
I'm not sure what your location is. I am going to assume that your message has lost something in the translation.
Regarding "Quickheads", Dan Yeager is an enormous asset to the builder community. Anything he has for sale is WELL worth the cost.
As far as public domain... Dan has it, and it appears that you need it...

What I saw when trying to play it.....

I'd click your link, and it took me to the

Well, at least I saw ... "1" view from the cockpit....

I have "pinnacle 11" and have made a few movies of weddings and one cross country.. A few years back...Pine Bluff, Ark. To Monmouth, NJ.....Flyin a Beechcraft Baron back, thru the holes in the storm clouds, stormscope pointing the way. Got some footage of a monster "Anvil" from about 60 miles away, over Tennessee. It had to top ...angels 40,
and, must have been 40 -50 miles wide, because it looked like one could almost reach out and touch it.
At one point, we flew thru a clear layer,
mebbe a thousand foot tall. Drk clouds below, and wispy bright white above.
That was the day I realized.....
where Heaven, really was.

Never posted anything to the tube tho...

Anyhow I always get disappointed, by

Nice job, Sanjay.

About 8 days ago I finally crossed another milestone (a big one for me!),
namely, landing at ARB (Ann Arbor), which has a 75 x 3500' runway. As you
may know. I keep my Q at YIP, which has the luxury of 150 x 8000' runways.
Over the course of testing and learning to fly the Q I graduated to landing
on 100x5000' runways, then 100x4000'. But I have stayed clear of landing at
anything smaller. On this day, it was 30F and sunny, snow still on the
ground. I did 3 touch-n-go's at YIP, not all the landings being picture
perfect. Then departed for ARB which is just 10nm away. Made a long,
shallow, and slower approach, 10knot headwind almost down the runway, and
made a good landing. Plenty of runway to spare. I had the camera mounted on
right wheelpant, but I forgot to turn it on, so did not capture the landing
at ARB. However, I did turn the camera on before departing ARB to fly back
to YIP. The link below is a video of that short flight. 7 minutes long.
Needless to say, when arriving back to the big and wide YIP runway, I made
a
sloppy bounced landing, coming in a little hot. This is on the video, and
may be instructive for newbies to the conventional gear Q. The video also
captures the belly brake in action.
