Cessna 182 flies 848 miles on only 56 gallons of fuel
Ross McCurdy and Thierry Staint Loup set a world record aviation fuel efficiency with an 848-mile triangular flight in a Cessna 182 using only 56 gallons of fuel, which works out to 15.1 nautical miles per gallon. The fuel used was a 50-50 mix of jet aviation fuel and biofuel.

Gee,two people and a whopping 15 mpg.  Not so impressive to some Q-bird and EZ flyers.  Gotta love at least some aspects of these little birds.  (We’d be passing that 182, too)

Hi Paul,

Thanks so much for that flight report. I could just imagine it in my mind, having flown that area several times. It is hard to beat for scenic cross country, and also hard to describe to those who have not been there, but you did a good job.

I know what you are saying about getting finished. I am almost close enough to taste it now. I never mind a little subtle encouragement, if even if you have to point fingers. Come on down, once the temps cool a little and I will give you an official tour of my project.

Cheers,
Jay

Great flight report.  Those are wide open spaces out there!
You need to be running APRS so someone would have a chance of finding you.

We crossed over just two airports on the way to Provo, Bridger, WY and Heber City Utah.  The only thing we saw flying was a hot air balloon over Heber City and after that pulled the power back for the glide down thru Provo Canyon  from 10,500 to 5,000 at Provo.

On the way back I flew up to Bridger at 11,500 and then followed I-80 over to Rawlins, WY and then direct to Casper.  Total flight time 4.3 hrs, 22 gal fuel and right at 630 nautical miles.  Nice little trip by airQ the trip by car would have been about 17 hours and burned about 43 gallons of fuel.

Lol that will have to be my son. It's taken me way more time and energy and money then ever thought just to get the 2 place back to production. Wendy and I are working hard to correct what people have done wrong to us and our shop and ate digging out as fast as we can. God willing everyone should be seeing many changes as we will post it here and for the couple folks out there we still owe hang in there we have not forgotten and you are first on our list and mind. Jay we can't wait to see more on your plane, we personally love the work you have done in making your plane something different without taking away from safety.

Yes, we are having a fly-in!  It will be in Davenport Iowa (KDVN) the weekend of 16-18 September 2016.  So make your plans now to attend!!

A block of rooms has been reserved at the Quality Inn in Davenport (under the approach for runway 33 - so it's close!).  The room rate is $79.99 per night for up to two adults (so $40/night per person).  I explained the weather issue and they have agreed to no modification or cancellation penalty.  I will include their email to me below, but to reserve a room you need to call the hotel directly at 563-386-8336 and ask for the "Quickie Builders" block.  I need to release the unclaimed rooms by 02 September, so if you think you are coming, please book now!

Flying - KDVN is on the north side of a class C airspace.  As long as you stay clear of their airspace, you do not need to call Quad City Approach.  But they are nice folks, so don't feel bad about calling them!  We have two runways, 4000' and 5500' both 100 feet wide, so there should be no problem landing a Quickie!  I bought self service fuel today for $4.00/gallon which is very reasonable for the area.

Driving - KDVN is just north of Interstate 80 at exit 295.  We are about a three hour drive west from Chicago - an easy drive once you get out of the Chicago traffic!

Airlines - The closest airport with commercial service is Moline Illinois (KMLI) which is the above mentioned "Quad City Approach".  So it is very close!  Other options are KCID (~1 hour drive), KRFD (~1.5 hour drive), or KMDW/KORD which are both about a 3 hour drive.

So what else do you need to know?  If you've got questions, post them on the list, or send them to me directly and I'll get you an answer. I'll post more info as we get closer.

I'm really looking forward to seeing everyone in September!
