Re: Autopilot

Mike,

I have a belly board/speed brake and use it for landings. This allows me to put added pressure on the tailwheel during roll out.

I also have and use an aileron reflexor but mostly for landing. I use it to balance loads in flight for heavy aft loading conditions. In my opinion the reflexor was designed as a band aid for wings that were out of spec/angle of incidence. I don't fly with full reflexor in flight under any conditions, that seems kind of odd.

It is true that you can pick up a couple of miles per hour by reflexing the ailerons up and trimming the elevators down.

Thanx Corbin,
I ordered a 6" dually. To get it overnight, I had to use a different brand, but should work well.

What extender do we use for going through the wheel pant? I am trying to move my plane. I have a set of plastic and metal 1-1/4 inch extenders. The metal ones look threaded, so I always figured I could join two of them. Imagine my surprise when I can't screw them together. They are grooved, but not threaded, ie: the grooves are parallel and not helical. I have seen some flexible ones online, but we need rigid. Only have two days to get these inflated. Don't want to take the wheels off. Thanks in advance.

Ride to Field of Dreams. I will be living in Alamogordo, NM, right next to the regional airport. Anyone from southern Cal or Arizona flying over me want to pick me up? I'm 165 pounds. Otherwise its a ten hour drive.

Re: Autopilot

Mike Dwyer

Well that leads to another question.  How we use the Aileron Reflexer.

In cruise I fully reflex the ailerons up (reduce lift on rear wing) and this forces me to go forward on the stick (reduces lift of canard wing).  This makes me use the trim force to trim nose down.  Because the lift of both wings is reduced my drag is reduced and I gain about 4 mph for free!

So I thought about getting rid of the factory elevator trim but I'd lose this 4 mph...

Ditch the plans elevator trim and use the reflector for pitch trim

For those of you that have installed an autopilot.  I'm curious how you did the mechanical hookup to the elevator and ailerons.  I'm thinking for the ailerons put the servo in the back where the aileron bellcrank is.  For the elevator - wow, not much space to put a servo under the header tank.  The factory trim wheel takes up most of that space.  Advice or suggestions welcome!

Good morning to all!  The RSVP is incorrect for Field Of Dreams on the URL!  AT and T shut down that address when we went with Sudden Link.  I will contact Rachel today to see if she can change the e-mail.  You can e-mail me at jcrain2@... or call me at 580-478-3670 to let us know if you are coming.  I already have many names who have already contacted me so if you are sure you are on that list you don't need to respond to the URL e-mail RSVP.
Sorry 'bout that.

Re: Pattern Speeds for the Q200

Mine has no belly board. Keep in mind the belly board is primarily there to add drag, not lift, so your landing speeds will not change. The belly board does lower the deck angle, increasing the view over the nose.

Are all these speeds with the belly board deployed? How/when does that factor in to everyone's pattern procedures?
