...but there's no reason to delete this group. Its primary function will continue - until Yahoo decides otherwise.
Yahoo really missed the boat. I monitor or otherwise participate in nearly 140 yahoo groups, all of which are in a state of panic, most of which are opting to pay $110 to transfer their stuff to Groups.io. If Yahoo would have told us to pay up or be deleted, they could have made bank even if they lost 25% of the groups in the process. But instead, that same money that they could have scored is going to Groups.io

I for one and glad this format is finally done. It's been time to modernize and improve for years, despite all the resistance. Glad this is forcing the hand. Thanks for stepping up Sam! I was about to offer the same myself when I saw your message about having already jumped on the task. Let me know if I can be of any assistance.

All,
As you may know Yahoo! Groups and the existing Q-list will be going away very soon. Current Q-list moderator Paul Fisher and I had a conference and decided that https://groups.io/ is the way of our future. You don’t have to follow us, but this is what we are setting up. We looked at Google Groups, but they do not transfer photos, files, or conversations, so all history would be lost. Also, it looks like that someone would have to cut and paste email addresses to move all the members. Please look at some of the advantages that Groups.io has over Yahoo: https://groups.io/static/transfer. Thank you everyone for your input.
Groups.io seems to have all the bases covered. (The owner came from Yahoo). We have grabbed the Q-List name and we have done a couple of test messages and all seems well. You will not have to create a new ID, like Yahoo required.
Groups.io is requiring that we purchase a Premium, one year membership for $110, if we want them to handle all the transfer legwork. I paid that today and will accept small donations to offset, but it’s not necessary. More about that in a future email.
After our first year, as long as our stored content is less than 1 GB, the group will be free. Right now, on Yahoo, we have about 650 MB of content, so at the end of the year we should be easily eligible to be free. I do intend to clean up some of the content.
Please don’t do anything right now, it will take a week or two for the transfer to happen. Over the next couple of days I will initiate the transfer process. We promise to keep you informed and how to opt out if you choose.
Thanks.

I edited my profile many times, but for some reason the groups never want to display my name. My name is Maxim, I am a professional pilot, the commander of a Boeing 737 and together with my friends we are the owners of the only Viking Dragonfly in Russia, but of course, historically, I am a fan of too and therefore subscribed to the group and offered help.

Re: Announcing the new Q-List
ΕΔΔΥ . <overlordmustafa@...>
I used to keep in my garage a server, it was awesome. It had FTP accounts I could create for people or groups. I had my website on it. It was free too. Open source. It was "ClarkConnect" ClarkConnect has changed names now, but the same system is available for free. With support it costs a small fee.
Now, it's called ClearOS. I no longer have this running as I'm not an IT guy (A friend installed it for me). Once up and running it was very easy to maintain.
I can't host a website here any longer, but...it's something perhaps to consider. The actual computer necessary to run the server was a PII. A slow old computer worked perfectly fast!

Re: Announcing the new Q-List
Are you 100% sure? The way I understand it is that the basic message list remains functional, but the storage capacity on the YG servers ('content') is deleted. Since I hardly ever use that, nothing would change for me as a message list user. Please be 100% sure before making these changes.

That's why.Â
Here is an article about it. <https://www.usatoday.com/story/tech/talkingtech/2019/10/17/yahoo-groups-online-forum-shutdown/4007150002/>https://www.usatoday.com/story/tech/talkingtech/2019/10/17/yahoo-groups-online-forum-shutdown/4007150002/

I would be happy to continue using YahooGroups as a pure message list. I never ever use the files / polls / links / photos / folders / calendar / database functionality. And maybe I'm not alone. Why then move the list? The change will surely disrupt membership severely.

All,
As you may know Yahoo! Groups and the existing Q-list will be going away very soon. Current Q-list moderator Paul Fisher and I had a conference and decided that <https://groups.io/>https://groups.io/ is the way of our future. You don̢۪t have to follow us, but this >is what we are setting up. We looked at Google
Groups, but they do not transfer photos, files, or conversations, so all history would be lost. Also, it looks like that someone would have to cut and paste email addresses to move all the members. Please look at some of the advantages that Groups.io has over Yahoo: <https://groups.io/static/transfer>https://grou ps.io/static/transfer.
I paid that today and will accept small donations to offset, but it̢۪s not necessary. More about tt that in a future email.
After our first year, as long as our stored content is less than 1 GB, the group will be free. Right now, on Yahoo, we have about 650 MB of content, so at the end of the year we should be easily eligible to be free. I do intend to clean up some of the content.
Please don̢۪t do anything right now, it will
take a week or two for the transfer to happen. Over the next couple of days I will initiate the transfer process. We promise to keep you informed and how to opt out if you choose.
Thanks.
