Re: First air-to-air shots of N8WQ
Hi Mike,
Jim P can confirm whether I am correct or now, but I think that he (Jim) has had a failure in one of his nylaflow lines, and it was in the outer third of the wing, not close to the wheel.
Cheers, Jay

That raises a question. Has any Tail Dagger Q had a nylaflow failure? The nose wheel versions can really stand on the brakes so the Tri-Q might benifit from better brake line.

Re: First air-to-air shots of N8WQ
Hi Jim,
I think that one piece solution will be fine and dandy. Need the high pressure fittings on each end. I ordered mine pre-made from discounthydraulichose.com Saved a lot of headache and was very reasonably priced. Unfortunately, I think 1/4 “ is the minimum size for them.

Re: First air-to-air shots of N8WQ
Nylaflow ages poorly. Nylon requires a small amount of water in the matrix. We had to soak injected molded nylon structural parts in 190 F water for 24 hrs after injecting at 600 F. I believe the water slowly disperses by evaporation over time and heat exposure reducing flexibility.

I converted to stainless steel 1/8” lines with flexible SS braided Teflon lined swaged fittings in 2006. No leaks firmer brakes. Steel is real no fatigue. Regards,

Re: First air-to-air shots of N8WQ
I have had aluminum tubing and braided stainless steel Teflon from the beginning. No worries here.
I do understand that the Nyla flow is effected by heat ie being close to the brake disc/caliper.

Re: First air-to-air shots of N8WQ
Thanks Jim, but you two are fully trained airmen! Give my condolences to Ray. He was out here last fall and I got to have a few lunches with him. His plane looked great with the new paint, so I bet he is sad. Glad he was not hurt. I hope it can be repaired. I put 1/8” stainless in mine, and am using SS wrapped Teflon in the transitions to the master cylinders and to the slave cylinders. I think you will like the piece of mind.
Cheers, Jay

Hi Jay, glad to see you are having fun with your Q and your first aerial shots. I just attached this pix of me and Bob being up close and personal.😊 so you see you can get a little closer to the camera. Once again, the Nyloseal tubing failed. Beware. I’m switching to Stainless wrapped Braided Teflon.

Jay, I tried to fly formation with a Taylorcraft one day in my Dragonfly VW. I went around that block once. So I took a critical look at your two pictures. You were a field ahead of him by the time he snapped the second one! One Sky Dog

Charlie gets the "CSI Colorado" forensics award. I was dragging it along at about 85 and my friend in the Champ was speeding along at 70, so I still went by him pretty fast. When he gets his Stearman out of hibernation, I may be able to get in formation then and get some good photos. What? You could fly with a Champ? Did you install flaps or something? I don't see a drag parachute in the photos. Sam
