You can change from Nylon tube to Teflon tube without needing to use the braided tube. The end fittings can be the same or upgraded.

Hey Jay, Jerry and Mike,
You can add Brad Olsen (Tom Moore’s Q originally)to that list. NF tubing failed in the wheel pant near the disc. He locked up the other brake and did a 360. No damage. Quick repair and he was flying again.

Hi Rich, It doesn't sound like there have been any nylaflow tubing breaks. I'm still running my 35 year old stuff with 1400 hours on it with no issues. I took a piece of the leftover 35 year old stuff and tried to break it with no luck, it seemed pretty good. I do a brake pressure test each time before landing so if it fails in flight I'll know that I'm landing with no brakes and can plan for that.

Hi Mike,
Jim P can confirm whether I am correct or now, but I think that he (Jim) has had a failure in one of his nylaflow lines, and it was in the outer third of the wing, not close to the wheel.

That raises a question. Has any Tail Dagger Q had a nylaflow failure? The nose wheel versions can really stand on the brakes so the Tri-Q might benifit from better brake line.

Jerry, brake lines (stock) were installed in my plane new around 1995. Left side failed about 2’ right of of the wheel pant (in elevator slot) 2-3 years ago on landing at Auburn, Ca in pissing snow and light rain at dusk. Wasn’t
a lot of fun.

Hi Jim,
I think that one piece solution will be fine and dandy. Need the high pressure fittings on each end. I ordered mine pre-made from discounthydraulichose.com Saved a lot of headache and was very reasonably priced. Unfortunately, I think 1/4 “ is the minimum size for them.

Re: First air-to-air shots of N8WQ
Nylaflow ages poorly. Nylon requires a small amount of water in the matrix. We had to soak injected molded nylon structural parts in 190 F water for 24 hrs after injecting at 600 F. I believe the water slowly disperses by evaporation over time and heat exposure reducing flexibility.

I have had aluminum tubing and braided stainless steel Teflon from the beginning. No worries here.
I do understand that the Nyla flow is effected by heat ie being close to the brake disc/caliper.
