Airventure is only 4 months away! Makes for a great reason to work hard and get em dome! Also Spring Fling and Field Of Dreams are two other great “get away” parties! Bruce Crain

I finished filling primer and paint on my new cowl mod today. As you can see it dips down a bit more and at the aft end it flips down more. Also the red baffling material slopes down and wraps the gear leg so that none of the high pressure under the cowl can push up into the exit. The cht’s are a good 35 to 45 degrees cooler. Cowl exit
Here you go Richard. When I finish painting it I will get a better picture. Maybe of both the old one and the new. If you magnify the pic and look at the dark area under the aft part of the cowl you can get an idea. At least for my TriQ the restricting part of the engine has been at the exit end of the cowl. That bladder blanks a lot of the area.

I am finally finishing my cowl exit augmenter so I wanted to touch on a couple of things about it.
The fiberglass part in this picture lowers the exit below where the original hung. It not only opens it up at the aft end it also lowers it below the oil bladder which obstructs the outflow quite a bit. The other picture with the orange baffling material is a big help also. All of this helps the TriQ family as the nose gear descends through the bottom of the cowling. The opening for the gear leg lets a lot of high pressure come into the cowl blocking the exit air. Having flown the original and this retro-fit I can tell you it lowers my cylinder head temps and especially my oil temps. After pulling the number 4 cylinder and putting o rings on the front two through bolts I tested it out today. After the 1st flight the leak was worse!! I pulled it back into the hanger and pulled the cowling.
The leak was coming from the #4 cylinder! Piffle!! But I did notice it was coming from the rocker box cover. I had reused the silicone gasket and knew that was probably the culprit! So I pulled the rocker cover and could see a small chunk out of the gasket. I located the chunk in the tin bucket underneath to catch the oil so I knew it wasn't in the crank case. I put a new silicone rocker cover gasket on it and flew it again for about 3 tenth of an hour. When I looked under the fuz there was not any oil showing!!!! After all these years I finally have a DRY BELLY!
Kevin Boddecker I am still working towards your Spring Fling and this is the biggest fix that needed to be done. I am also working on a couple of other cosmetics things plus I will continue to up date on my sparrow strainer stall. I am thinking I need to re-position the zig zag tape further back on the apex of the strainer to see if that works differently. Will let you know when I get a chance to test that.

This is the LaRue Mod on my plane. The entire Airheart assembly floats so the pucks stay centered on the disc. Yours appears to be stock. Meaning that the Airheart assembly is fixed. Do you have the original QAC plans for that set up? Those plans will show the required spacing. Did this problem just happen? Jim N46JP - Q200
