Unless you live in Switzerland, I don’t think you need to do load testing. Especially if you are building a Tri-Q2. It is plenty strong and a proven design if you build per plans. If you are in the US, there is no requirement for load testing. The only load testing, that I have seen actual data from, was done at one of the fly-ins in Livermore back in the late 90’s. I bought a similar inexpensive pump for my VW bus after the German one failed after 30 years. The cheap Amazon/Chinese one failed in about 9 months.  The 2nd cheap pump is still working after a couple of years, I haven’t put many miles on it. 

Would it be possible to install two pumps?  My Mooney has a low boost and high boost pump (which I never use).

I don't have a check for the pump noise on my startup check list.  It's there now.  Then I stop at NAPA auto parts on the way home and they want $70 for the darn thing.  I pass and get home to check Amazon, yes $20 but it's a knock off of the Facet pump with great reviews.  So I just logged one of my shorter flights this year!

Hey Mike, yup that qualifies for a butt pucker.😊 Glad things turned out ok for you. 

I had a similar situation Monday morning leaving Auburn, Ca. When I got to the airport 

I found I had left the ignition on and fully drained a brand new Concord RG25 and Panasonic 8 amp. The radios wouldn’t even fire up. As a side note: I run dual Plasma 3 Lightspeed’s and have dual battery/splittable systems for some redundancy. 

Being so early, I couldn’t find anyone on the field with a charger, so I jumped the aircraft battery from my car battery and when it got about 10 minutes charge, I hand propped and the engine came to life. 

The low voltage light went out and the two volt meters showed both batteries charging. I ran at 1000 rpm for about 10 minutes and then headed out to the runway. I taxied at 1500 RPM to the run up area (about 5 minutes) and did both ignitions and carb heat checks at 2000 rpm. Everything checked out nominal. 

I took off and at about 3000 feet and 5 miles from the airport, the low voltage/alternator light came on. That’s when I woke up. 😊

Realizing I had two electronic ignitions that don’t work with out juice, I thought well here we go, Auburn Ca., two almost totally discharged batteries and no place to land, hummm.  I made sure all non essential electric was off leaving only 2 ignitions and one radio on. Got back to Auburn and landed. 

Back on the ground, I found the 60A alternator breaker on the firewall tripped. I suspect when the plane got in the 2500/2600 rpm range,  the alternator supplied a rush of electricity through the breaker trying to fill the batteries and tripped it. I still don’t understand why the voltage regulator didn’t prevent this. I fully charged the batteries and installed a new 60A breaker and will test fly it tomorrow. 

The moral of the story for me is that, and I was trained to know, “accidents don’t typically just happen”. One thing on top of another can sometimes lead to a bad day. If this situation ever happens again and I am on the ground, that is where I will stay until both batteries are fully charged. Getting airborne was a very dumb move on my part. 

I’ve been flying 54 years now and have seen a lot of weird shit, this may be another. Beware, if it doesn’t feel good, don’t go there. 

Just a thought.

I ditched my squeeze bulb many moons ago, but I do a check on every startup. 6.5 gallons in my header when it's full.
