Sam, is that plate aluminum or steel? Thickness?

Re: How Much Cable Play between Rudder and Tailwheel in Q2?
Here’s another cable option that allows for differential between rudder and tailwheel but Sam’s
set up is a lot easier to install especially on a finished airplane. Like he said, no destruction. (This is one of the six pack mods). I think this mod is like dual finger brakes vs dual toe brakes, it’s a matter of individual taste. They both accomplish the same thing. Jim Patillo N46JP Q200

No destructions needed, this photo shows all. The turnbuckle cable goes to the rudder bellcrank. Sam

Do you have instructions/drawings/parts list for your cable splitter in the files section somewhere, or on your blog? Might be an easier retrofit on a completed bird. -- -MD #2827 (still thinking about planning on visualizing how to finish building)

Re: Facet Fuel Pump

Yes, the old pump was repaired. But it's so old that I'm only going to use it in the airplane now.

Good idea, I'll try that. Now that I think about it (and now six states away from the plane), the main bus isn't that hard to get to.

Easy stuff first:
Try connecting a 9 volt battery to the Hobbs meter directly using alligator clips. Wait 6 minutes and see if it turns... -- -MD #2827 (still thinking about planning on visualizing how to finish building)

Mike: Do you think the diode could be replaced and the pump repaired? Be an interesting data point and might leave you a spare... Would be kind of fun to run the Facet+BraveX pumps side by side 24/7 circulating a test fluid to see how long they last. Anyone got 83 days to waste?? -- -MD #2827 (still thinking about planning on visualizing how to finish building)

I intend to complete the six pack, once I get the plane back to Michigan.

Re: How Much Cable Play between Rudder and Tailwheel in Q2?
Bruce is correct, you have to adjust the cable to the rudder with the tailwheel spring unloaded. If the cable is too loose, you can encounter rudder flutter at the higher speeds. This is unnerving, as it shakes the crap out of the entire aircraft. The stock method is a shitty design. Regards, Sam .

Oh, that makes sense: I did have weight on the tailwheel. And the build instructions do show springs wrapped around. Thanks!

Re: How Much Cable Play between Rudder and Tailwheel in Q2?
Is thy that with the tail wheel off of the ground? The tail spring flex will perhaps make it tighter when the load is off. You can take the slack off the cable by putting a couple of springs from one cable to the other which pulls them together in the middle. As you push the rudder peddles left and right the springs move with them. Hope this is clear as mud.

Of course it matters. I do think we have better "alternative" development happening now than ever before. But I think they has more to do with advances in engine management technology than some magic dust that suddenly made non aircraft engines better for this application. But the good thing in my opinion, is that those advances are also available for retrofit to proper aircraft engines now. So you can have a Conti or lyc with the electronic management systems, injection etc.

I believe the LS1 showed up around 1982 if my memory is correct.

I've seen it done both ways. Mine is wired through an oil pressure switch. When the engine is running, so is the Hobbs. Paul
