Sparrow Strainers - Why and Why Not?

Help educate me on this old topic. I understand what they do regarding pitch, however, why do some of us not have them? Is it a GU vs LS1 thing or is it simply a “don’t have a pitch issue to fix” thing?

Re: Q Family Memories

Jerry,
That's right  He and Suzie attended, I believe, all our gatherings including the ones Steve Laribee and I hosted at Mattoon for a couple of years.
Terry and I drove to Ohio for his visitation.  No way I could not say goodbye when he and Suzie were so good to us.  I remember Suzie was nearly overcome when Terry and I walked in.
I believe, if I remember correctly, a few other Q people went to his visitation as well.  There's no doubt something special about the common thread which brings us together.
If I also remember right, he had given his dad a ride in his Q shortly before his passing and Suzie continued attending our events for a few years afterwards.

How many of you have seen these shirts and wondered from where they came.  They were Dave and Suzie's creation.
Of their many contributions to the Q family this one will likely live on for many years.

I can't thank them enough for the fond memories.

I have seen where some quickies have been converted to the rotax 503 and the kawasaki TA440. I purchased this Kawasaki brand new complete W/electric starter from JBird with the Maginum Redrive with a 3 to 1 ratio. It is still complete, has been started once a month for 5 minutes to keep it clean and running with the seals getting lubricated. So it might have 10 to 15 hrs total run time at idle to just keep the seals good and it lubricated. I am selling the whole unit for $1500 OBO. Email me direct if interested skyguynca@...

Jennifer and I got to know Dave and Suzie fairly well.  After Dave died we got to spend some time with Suzie at Jefferson County (I think it was there, been along time since then).  She is a strong woman .

They were indeed really nice people and  spent a lot of time with the Q community and definitely contributed a lot.  Dave is missed.

Just corn, soybeans, and thunderstorms.
Typical view from the hanger this time of year. Otherwise it would have a view of the runway on the other side of the field.
Bugs not cleaned off, but my air is denser than Jay’s just not as dense as Paul’s.

Good folk indeed.
I was fortunate enough to know them both.
Also was able to take his towel on cross country, from Emporia to KDEH.
Don’t recall where or how he got any farther.

Yes, Dave and Susie DID do the Newsletter. and were no end of fun and laughter at all of the fly-ins they both attended.  AND known for the hilarious  "... you just might be a tandem-winger" routine!  They had us rolling with laughter in the aisles at Sullivan and one other fly-in with that.  Some of us had been in contact with Susie in recent years.  A number of our builder/pilots who knew Dave flew his towel  in their plane and logged the flight time in a special logbook, Susie has both his towel and logbook now.  Truly delightful couple, and still sorely missed.  Thanks for that, Keith!
