We will keep the door open for you!  My TriQ is down for a rebuild on the MT Prop.  Timed out and slinging a little grease.  Should have it back next week so I can mount it and text fly it.  Will be up and running for Field Of Dreams

Hi Jerry,

75,000 acres burning in the bookcliffs and Roan plateau, only 10% contained. another 10,000 burning in Glenwood Canyon. I-70 has been closed for a week. Very hot and dry here. Kind of a shame. A few ranches threatened, but otherwise just wild lands. You know this area, so I give you details. Hoping for rain but none in sight.

Cheers,
Jay

Very nice Jerry. Are those little red flags, so that cars can see you when you are pedaling around the block?   I think I am going to steal your town name for a little while. The fires east of us are huge and winds are bringing clouds of smoke over us that are so thick they are “snowing” ash. Even floats into the hangar with the door closed, so I think we are going to be Ash-ville for a while.

Cheers,

Jay

Re: clearances

Sam------------  Thanks for the info. It helped  a lot. It appears as if I  had misplaced the phenolic profile for the elevators

on the Q200. After looking at your description I saw my mistake and spent a while searching  and  found the templates.
Did some measuring and figuring and  I'm pretty sure I got it right.

I had already installed my slot cores so my process was different.

Also when installing my middle  thimbles for the elevators I cut the tube and install the thimbles,

mark everything well and then install the tube into the elevator foam and glass. After setup remark and cut

out the foam to expose the hinge.

My elevator also has the inside two inches that is removable to expose a steel attachment that allows three attach points

instead of only one. This also gives the opportunity for a glassed in place fairing. My inner elevator bellcrank has a washer welded that goes against the inner phenolic.

You can push the elevator outboard , the bellcrank inboard against the phenolic and then attach the bellcrank to the tube with a rivet and then

drill and add a AN 3 bolt. That's my plan so far------------- Thanks again--------------  Chris

Chris, when I built my new Canard I was dismayed at how crappy the plans were. I decided to rewrite them. Take a look here and see if it's helpful for you. I spent a lot of time on the elevator attachment instructions.

trim last. If I do it the way I think I end up with 1/2 inch clearance
between the elevator and the inside of the slot. Make sense??  Take

One popsicle stick on either side of elevator is the clearance for the elevator slot.

Re: Coughlin Brake Mount Drawings

The tubing coming out of the pant was going to make too sharp of a bend, especially with any movement. I did the big loop to relieve stress and covered it with tubing to prevent abrasion.

Hi Kieth,
I’m no expert ... but I use ‘Vimeo’ to transfer video’s ... it converts vid into a hyper link ... and so sends easy ... there the free version which I use ... is well known .. is a bit clumsy to learn etc ... but does the job ... probably better ways around that I don’t know ...,

I agree with the group on this, Chris. Build aileron assembly per plans, or close to it. No need to alter a good design. It will save you time and hassle in the long run.

Flipped the wing upright today to install the aileron slots. Any
different ideas on mounting the ailerons?

How is the best way to make an aileron to fuselage fairing? I am setting
mine up a bit different than plans. I want the ailerons easily removable
to service bushings. I also have a hinge point mid aileron,  and am
thinking of installing fuselage mounted phenolic along with the inner
phenolic.  For the fuselage hinge point I  would like to drill it  out
to 1 inch.  Slide the 5/8 tubing mounted in the aileron into the
phenolic and then slide a one inch outside diameter bushing with  5/8
inside  into the phenolic and pop rivet it in place.  The inner
bellcrank has a washer on it that will push against the inner phenolic
to hold the aileron out. Any ideas and critisism is welcome along with
pictures.

 Take care-------------  Chris
