B25 crashed tonight in Stockton

Jim Patillo
“Old Glory” a beautifully restored B25 crashed tonight trying to land in Stockton, Ca. All three walked away but The plane is badly damaged.
I flew in the Nevada County Airshow with him last fall. Damn shame. I just hope it’s salvageable.

Yes frustrating but fortunate rather the beginning than the middle for a failure. I had not even looked at the electrical mess.
Piper put a generator on it. Someone took a “70’s car 🚗 alternator with a bunch of parts added and an over voltage box and got a STC to replace failing generators. Started InterAv Company. That replaced the generator late 70’s on my airplane. So 40 year old stuff now failed. The B&C kit has less components and uses modern technology to do the job better. It is also 6 lbs lighter off the nose.
My hope is to get the Dragonfly in the air for next years event, the Tri-Pacer has been a necessary distraction this summer.
More hanger talk! 67 F and 82% in Enid. Raining in Ogden.
Charlie Sorry to hear that Charlie. Last year, my alternator failed and it only cost $75 to have it rebuilt within about 45 minutes. The two magnets had broken apart inside. Next time I have the engine off I’m going with the B&C alt you chose.
Frustrating for you, I’m sure. Corbin Bruce,
Unable to complete first leg to FOD 2020 :-(
Looked in the logs. The alternator is a 50 amp InterAv installed in late 70’s, to upgrade from 36 amp generator. My A&P said he could easily rack up $2K in trouble shooting and fixing the existing system.
I ordered a B&C 40 Amp kit for my engine and Bob and I will install it. The A&P will inspect and sign off.
I hope this does not take another month. B&C is swamped with orders it could be a week before they ship. And on other week to get it and install it.
As soon as it is airworthy again I will look for good weather to fly home to E95. Bob will pick me up in Benson and take me to Ogden to get my truck and cargo trailer a.k.a. Stealth Camper.

Hey Jay,
You are talking about Roger Hansen, who now lives in Henderson, NV. Kind of ironic but Mike Neidenthal (soon to be Q200 driver) met him recently and started talking about the Q and guys in Livermore. Roger then said you mean Jim
and Bob?
It’s a small aviation world!
Jennifer and I had planned to be in Enid but my younger brother passed away a week and a half ago from Bone Cancer/Agent Orange. From the time he found out until he died was 4 weeks. Really sad.
Maybe next year.
Regards,
Jim

If I recall correctly, he put a lightweight Toyota alternator (nippon denso), as part of the STC, so maybe that STC was later sold or gifted to B&C, and perhaps that is the one you are going to install.

Bruce,
Unable to complete first leg to FOD 2020 :-(
Looked in the logs.
Sorry I missed it,

Sorry to hear that Charlie. Last year, my alternator failed and it only cost $75 to have it rebuilt within about 45 minutes. The two magnets had broken apart inside. Next time I have the engine off I’m going with the B&C alt you chose.
Frustrating for you, I’m sure. Corbin
