Re: W and B

Jay Scheevel

Hi Chris,

Different people have tailwheels in different places (mine is on the nose),
plus I think you have unconventionally located main gear, right? I would
suggest you just try to get the empty CG between FS39 and FS40, and things
should work out pretty well regardless of the gear placement. If you get
this right you will probably not need to add ballast, but your mileage may
vary.

Cheers,
Jay

I am getting close to the W and Balance of the airplane.

On the Q200 with the continental does anyone use ballast in the tail.
If so, how much?

What are most people getting for tail weight?

Still having fun-------------------  Chris

Sounds great Kevin. Missed seeing you at your fling. Maybe we can reserve the homebuilder patio this year and have a social hour. I will look into that.

It is 3/16 on mine, but aware some have gone to 1/4. I have been chewing over this as it seems a good idea.

Yep, that’s how it’s supposed to be at the bottom of the stack. I don’t see any reason you can’t put it together with push rods either side of the stick where your current attach bolt is, but I have never seen one done that way.

Pete Stein update

Bruce Crain

This is Honey Lamb,

I spoke with Pete Stein's wife, Kim, today. She wanted me to express thanks and gratitude to all the Q guys who have been involved with Pete and his Q. Kim, her daughters and Pete's Brother are in AZ.  Visiting is very restricted at the ICU and they only allow family for a few minutes she said.  Kim's daughter asked me to share the link that will have updates posted on Pete's progress. I will post the link below.  Pete is in a medically induced coma at present. The Neuro evaluation is pending due to the coma.  I told Kim we would be praying for them all.

You Q guys/gals are an amazing group who are all supportive.  Many questions remain to what happened and I will not speculate.  I know we all ache for Pete and Gabe's family.  Blessings on them.

Re: Flew today

Sam Kittle

Our Friday breakfast group flew to Hollister, CA this morning, only two RV-6s and my Mighty Luscombe.  It was hot crossing the Central Valley due to an inversion layer and the headwinds were 20 knots at 5,000’.  I only climbed to 3,000’ to avoid the headwinds and clear the coastal mountains.  As I descended into the Salinas Valley the temperature dropped significantly due to a nice breeze coming off the Pacific Ocean(Hollister is only about 20 miles inland).  Following a wonderful breakfast, I climbed to 5,500’ for the return trip home.  The tailwind was now only 7 knots but the temperature was 80 degrees.  Maintained my altitude until 10 miles from our airport (Calaveras County, elevation 1320’).  When I landed, the temperature was 111 degrees, humidity was only 16 percent (it’s a dry heat but still hot).  I taxied direct to my hangar instead of topping off the fuel.

Still building!

90, you call that hot!  LOL.  Good flight report and good to stay current!  Good thing we're not in Phoenix!

I hate to say it but many of our beaches have a thing called "Red Tide" now.  It takes the O2 out of the water and kills masses of fish.  We had a phosphate mine leak 20 million gallons into Tampa Bay about 6 months ago and it might be the cause.  Anyway, lots of dead fish here!  Hope it clears up.  We are planning a trip to the Keys to do some snorkeling.  That's where we should all meet!

No beaches or bikinis in sight (you win Mike!), but the Iowa corn crop looks good so far!
