"Field Of Dreams" 2021 Pilot and Camping information.

Hello to all!  Just a couple of quick notes for Field Of Dreams!
 
Pilots-  If you are landing to the north on runway 35 be aware of the old runway joining the new runway at the south end of the field.  There is a bump where they  transition.
You have plenty of runway with the old part.  I have been flying out of here for years and the runway has always been to long.  Which is why it works very well for 1st flights especially in a Quickie.  It is obvious where the new runway butts up against the old runway.  Just fly past the new one and land on the old one.  You will be glad you did especially in a Quickie.
 
When you land the tower will know where to taxi you.  We are in the new joint use hanger just like the last several years.  Don't be afraid to ask for progressive taxi if you need it.  Friday meal is at the Terminal with "Barnstormers Cafe" Cooking up some great food.  It is easier to eat there and I can watch for incoming aircraft while the rest of you eat.  It is just a  suggestion so no pressure.  It does make it easy and the cafe is a wonderful placed to sit with friends and enjoy the great food!
 
Campers-  If you are camping, Keston and I worked it out so you can camp beside my hanger on the south east part of WDG.  You are welcome to use the Terminal over night for restrooms and shower facilities.  Get with me when you get here and we will iron out all of the details.  The airport area is super secure so no worries there.
 
The highs for temps are low 90's and the lows look to be in the mid 60's.  The rain forecast is minimal for the event and the worst is 24% for Friday. The rest of the days look to only be around 10%.  Honey Lamb and I have been praying  for a long time for this event and I hope it holds for us!
 
Can't wait to see everyone!  We will be the one's smiling at you when you walk up!

I thought no my oil temps are around 160 but I replaced my capillary temp gauge and the current one only show a trend much like a 150 Cessna gauge. The needle started showing a hotter temp so I used the trend of oil temp and mag check and decided to change things until they worked as I like.
I take the temps from the back of the oil screen where the capillary bulb screws into it.
No filter. I change the oil every 25 hours. I do have an oil cooler.

Yes, A Q200 with wheel chocks will tend to lift the tail at high power.  Without chocks, the plane with locked wheels, will bounce up and down and drag the wheels down the taxiway.

I had a little shake down flight from KBVU to KFLY with a stop at KFMN   I took the southern route through Lavita pass.  2 hrs 20 minutes to the first stop. ( true 155 knots) ground speed 160 ish. Second leg was 1:45 to KFLY.  Return trip was almost the same speeds because of not much winds aloft. Jays density altitude table is very close. My take off role with a slight up hill grade with a 7 knot head wind was 2500.  Airport elevation is 6800 and density altitude at takeoff was 8700. I climbed around 5 to 600 feet a minute.   Once I shoe horn myself in the airplane is very comfortable to sit in. Was a good trip and looking forward to Enid!

Went up this morning for an early fall flight. The weather was beautiful and air was smooth. It happened that my good friend, Randy Miller was hopping a ride in his Stearman for another friend of my family, who at 68 took her first flight of any kind.  I really just had to come up along side to say “hi”.  The smoke is a nice way to track yourself into formation. Hope to see you all in Enid!

Flight Report and 4 into 4 Exhaust pipe update

I built my 4 into 4 exhaust pipes out of auto exhaust pipe material and flanges from AS.  After 420 hours and 16 years the #2 pipe developed a crack near the flange.  I've updated my web page on the pipes with the pictures and some info.  

After I got the repaired pipe back from the welder ($20) I installed the pipe.  The 4 into 4 system made this really easy.  I had to take off one intake tube and then could get to the exhaust nuts.  Probably took 20 min to put back together.  I then cleaned up the brakes and replaced the wheel bearings on the left side.  The wheel bearings on the right side were perfect but the left had a damaged permanent seal so wouldn't have lasted much longer.  

I went for a little check out flight.  90F and 80% humidity.  I saw on the radar a little green precip to the North so planned to just circle around that.  After takeoff I climbed fast to 2500'.  Stayed low just enough to stay out of the Tampa Class B.  Then headed North to do a little ham radio.  I could see some light precip on the ADS-B but out the window it looked great.  Usually if there is rain here in FL you see this grey shaft of rain.  Oops, I'm in the rain.  It was just this light stuff and not interfering with visibility at all.   I quickly checked my carb temp and saw around 45F then made a left turn to the South.  Well darn, I can't really do ham radio stuff to the south.  Too easy to bust the Class B that direction and the rain might just move over the airport.  Oh well, 30 minute flight so I decided to call back in for a  landing and call it a day.  Oh, on taxi out the brakes were pulling to the right.  I have the single handle that applies pressure to both brakes.  After landing, the brakes were back to being even, nice.  

Plane was pretty dirty and the rain did a good job cleaning it!

 The scrap workers outside the office would have loved you! All those cardboard boxes, nylon strapping, and styrofoam packing inserts.

 In truth much of this is stuff recycleable. The expanded styrofoam does have scrap value. I built my garage solo in Carson New Mexico from Rastra..which is nothing more than a formed block made from Portland slurry mixed with beaded styrofoam pellets and allowed to green set in a casting tool.  

 Makes an excellent building too! The garage/shop temps stayed above freezing overnite even without added heating to well below zero. I installed pex radiant tubing in the slab which collected heat via solar collector in the day..but because the home was 100% off grid energy demand was designed to be low. Many homes there used papercrete in construction which is cardboard or other paper slurried in and blown on similar to stucco.

You should give it a try, just for an experiment.
Crowd frenzy/behavior has been studied a lot, and exploited often at auctions.

About 10 years ago, when Harbor Freight prices were amazingly low, I had an idea to drop ship their heavy steel items right to US scrap yards, and make a profit.  I weighted H-frame presses, engine hoists, and big socket sets.  It would have worked and I never would have placed a finger on any of it.
Great idea right :) ;).
