911 is pretty much useless out here in the sticks of Oklahoma. 121.5 IS effective! One pilot reporting on another in distress gets ATC attention in a hurry.

If I had been in Dave’s shoes, having a friend hovering over would have been an answer to prayer.  I’d know I’d have assistance without delay.  Just to draw confidence from a friend…

 

While working at Sebastian FL airport 2004- retirement in 2016 I helped rescue quite a few forced landings on and off field.  Several while I happened to be flying and could quickly pinpoint the landing site.

 

We are all happy this one worked out without injury.  We built our planes once, we can rebuild or start over.

Will do.....but is that the PVC structure to hold the tail?  If so, I built that last summer and the tail is on it now.  If something else then I will check the blog.

A single 10.5 landscape screen will just fit yop to bottom with decent edge distance. I have a cad drawing based on the one from the q-list archives. It fits inside the edges well although slightly inboard. Copilot side would have a panel mount transponder with ads-b in/out for traffic. Lit rocker switches for all systems, (probably aveo rockers) as well as the Aveo Andromeda wing tip lights for nav and strobe. Landing light location and type undecided at this time. The G3x radios would be installed behind the seat back bulkhead. Which makes ample room for header tank up front.

Jim,
Not sure I’ve had it long enough to test it thoroughly.  I have it under the glare screen so it usually doesn’t see direct sunlight.  All it takes to remove it from the harness is push one button and you can “put it where the sun don’t shine”.  (Don’t take that personally).

I spoke with Trio and the guy said the back d rate in the Trio will look at the baud rate of the gps and automatically go to that baud rate if my unit is new enough.  If not he said I could send it in and they could change it for me.  It’s just a firm ware thing. 
So I can use and drive the two different auto pilots with the same Aera 660 gps.  I just need a hard wire harness and the 3 wires hooked up to gps signal, positive and ground.
No reason to wait if the 296 is quickly becoming obsolete.

    That makes complete sense, I am still running the little B&C 12 amp, but I wired it so that the 30 amp could pop straight in if it was needed.
