Fairly new to this group as I’m looking to purchase my first experimental…glad you’re ok!  Tough bird so that’s encouraging!  Thanks for the advice about the press…they like to do hatchet jobs on pilots after an accident.

I’m in Columbus OH.  KLHQ (Fairfield County) May be a possibility.  We have an Active EAA group.  A small museum (Historical Aircraft Squadron) and might be able to get hangar space.  Terrain is easy, airspace is easy, 5000 foot runway.  Let me know who to talk to about general plan and I can get with a few people here and see what might work.

We could do Beatrice again (KBIE), but I don’t have many connections at that airport anymore and might be harder to coordinate.

I kind of like where Keith is going with the conversation but have been to the Mattoon fly in my younger years and it’s great too. Unfortunately for me, that time of year is extremely busy getting crops in the ground.

Re: Spring Flinger

Lynn,
We are on the same page that time of year however, being no longer in production ag anymore I'm on the retail side now which means I start with the first and end with the last.  Ever hear of Pioneer Hi-bred?  I've had my own seed agency for going on 6 years now.  My only issue could be if a customer wants to plant their plot at that time.  That's one reason I'm leaning toward the weekend after Memorial Day barring any replants.  Pretty busy with deliveries now.

I can't make any commitments at this time before I determine the venue and clear any logistical issues.  In the past several years HUF has been very open to getting the TH community interested in coming out to the airport.  And we can be a part of that effort.  The airport has sponsored a Fly-in / Cruise-in and guess which airplane wins the peoples choice every time? I feel very confident Terre Haute will be good to go but want to clear Mattoon first.  One way or the other I'm confident we will have a Spring Fling.

And I appreciate the positive feed back.

And to Mike.  Wife and I were near you most of Feb and wanted to get in touch.  That's a beautiful part of the world you fly out of.  I hope we see you back in the air again soon.
Thank god your all right.

Kevin n Jay,
Mattoon would be a top choice on anyones list.  If I remember right they wanted $ to lease the hangar for the weekend.  Don’t quote me but that may have been what killed it.  But that was a long time ago and u know how memories get as we get older.  I know Steve Laribee follows this list.  I’ll touch base with him, who knows things may be different now.

I was recently reminded that there is not a Spring Fling planned for this Spring.  Kevin has been gracious enough to pick up the ball for FOD and therefore won’t be hosting Spring Fling this year.

It would be a terrible thing not to have a Spring Fling; it's a long-time tradition that I believe began with Kevin Boddiker 10 years or so ago.  Nancy and I, in the past,  have investigated the possibility of having either SF or FOD in or near Asheville, NC.  Each time we find that the local environment (Western NC, Northern SC and Eastern TN) does not fit the bill.  The bigger airports are towered and some have commercial airlines ( Asheville – 7, plus landing fees for non-locals) which greatly limits spontaneous fights.

The smaller non-towered airports that would be appropriate are in the boondocks; several miles from motels, restaurants and transportation.  Plus they don’t have hangars for our Q’s or anyplace to gather.

All of this is to say, WOULD SOMEONE PLEASE STEP FORWARD TO HOST THE SPRINGFLING???

From what Kevin tells me, there isn’t much to do as far as preparation – give him a call.

I would really like to see you folks this spring.  Jerry Marstall

Yup, lost oil pressure and engine quit just a bit too soon.  Didn't quite make the airport.  The Q is one tough bird.  Not a scratch on me but plane is totaled.  More to follow.

Just got this from our local CH8 news... That I was kinda rude to.  Told him I'm not going to say anything and tried very hard to keep my back to them.  Never talk to reporters after a crash!  I was actually going for that road until all these cars showed up!  And, darn, no inside camera today.  I don't know if I'd have taken the time to turn it on anyway.

Excellent piloting Mike!  Looks like you had her lined up for near perfect for a smooth trip off the grass
but alas..pesky wires!!  The news folks were frothing at the mouth as usual.. but your right!  Valuable lesson
everyone can see is the Q is a tuff critter. I highly doubt a span can would have had the same outcome given
the condition.

It'll be interesting to learn the cause of the oil pressure drop.

Very Very glad to hear this Mike!

Truly amazing that you are not hurt, but I'm thankful for it.

(Sam H would have that back together with two-part foam in a week or two.) :)
