I have a 0-time 2A042 that dynos at 22.5HP and weighs 80lb after stripping
off a bunch of stuff including the 9lb starter. I'm knocking another
couple of pounds off of it by putting a composite oil

The 4 stroke V twins are appealing for a Q1, but the low prop line means that you are limited on prop diameter. The Kohler gives 25 hp. The new larger Briggs and Strattons seem to have a low power

Yea, I agree with Bob - that HKS does look interesting. Obviously the
size of your checkbook may be an issue.
Tom Solan did a lightweight 1600cc VW install but I'm not sure what the
final weight

How about looking at the single rotor Wankel rotary engine as offered by Spruce? I am running a twin rotor Norton in the Q2-100 and it is as smooth as.

If I were building a Q-1 again, I might consider the HKS engine. It is a great engine and well proven. They have even shown great factory support when an oil cooling problem showed up in some of the

Dave, you might start looking into the Kohler. It is a modern engine and is realiable. I do think you need to becareful which end you put the stick on. It has more ponies too. I think Great Plains A/C
