Joe, you're on the right track. If you can, just flip the fuselage upside down, put some wax paper in the area and do the layup right where you want it per Sams suggestion. You can look on my web site

If you wish to add coring do the afore mentioned layup with peel ply beteen the 45s , After it is cured then seperate the two panels use a paste adhesive ,then bag the assembly together.
