I think we should all get together and purchase these molds for the QA.

What happened to the Taylor Paper Glass process of composite lamination? Did it just die when Molt Taylor died? Laminated Kraft Paper, laminated solid fiber board and 90# liner board make good core

They could Tad, and you could build a Cub out of fiberglass, but that might take away for the whole concept. No question is a stupid question unless you ask it twice. Can't remember where I heard that

Tandem wings, of several variations, have been made of tube and rag in the
past. Probably the most well known example is H. Mignet's.

But if you want to go fast there

Re: Quickie molds and plug
Damian,
I'll take that to mean that you are acquiring the molds and plug. Do you also have the process description for the shells (materials, layup schedule, etc.)?

Re: Quickie molds and plug
Great ! Could be stretched and morphed into a Q3 ! I am thinking about letting the mandrel go. If there is a future for the spars they would be better made nearer the market.

Re: Something like landing gear testing
I noticed some of the formula 1 aircraft at the reno air races also had just
a skid, of course, they don't taxi them to the takeoff position either. It
is just used for the short takeoff and landing.

Dumb Question #47
Ok - I have asked some strange things before and this one probably tops the list.
Why couldn't these birds be built as frame and stits fiber?

Guy's,
Coefficient of friction isn't the main causation of force if that front
strut is digging into the concrete. My guess is they have a nice groove down
the center of the runway and first class

Every sailplane I've ever flown had a skid.
A lot of high-performance sailplanes have skids on their wingtips

Re: Something like landing gear testing
Space ship 1 has a skid.
Ryan
would be more than that of a rolling tire, but with good anti-lock
brakes the coefficient of friction of a rolling, braked tire is
greater than the skidding friction.

Re: Something like landing gear testing
Sir Gall, point taken about friction coefficient but what about the non expected crippling loads as the wheel and axle rolled over? It was nice of the wheel to stay put under the strut like it did

Damian,
Amazed, why? You might think that the load from a skidding tire would be more than that of a rolling tire, but with good anti-lock brakes the coefficient of friction of a rolling, braked tire
