Jay, how close are y0u and Jim as far as "knowing "each other???
Flying ANY kind of IFR depends a lot on how good a pilot you are and what
level of slop you are willing to enter. How much lite is

Re: IFR in Qbirds
Hi Jay,
I've flown "Lite IFR" in my Q200 and would not recommend it without a 3 axis autopilot. The Q is not a real stable platform.........IMHO.

I purchased a Scout and tried it out this past weekend. Worked great no problem with ForeFlight wifi compatibility. ForeFlight is $75.00 a year and in my humble opinion well worth it.

I believe the Scout was introduced by Forefilght at Oshkosh for $200.00 (no battery back up) and it does work with apple phone and pad but not sure if you can get free weather and traffic on it like

I am to understand that Russell Cowles 84RC flew IFR on all his steam gages, Loran, glide scope and ADF radio. Rumor is he may have done most or all of his IFR training and check ride in his Q. I have

Re: ADS-B Revisted
I think you spelled it wrong, but here is a link I found:
https://flywithscout.com/
Cool little unit but it looks like it only works with Apple ForeFlight software (which is $200 per year)...

Re: ADS-B Revisted
Jim, l don't know if you have seen the Scout from uAvoiix for Ads-b in but it looks nice and compact. Might be worth the extra bucks. I have a plug and play one that I bought that works great for

ADS-B Revisted
As I said in an earlier post, I have a King KT76A transponder which is in good working order and did not want to mess with my radio stack.
I am installing a new Garmin GDL82 ($1,795.00) in the rear

Re: Flight Report #2
For $100 a Stratux ADS-B In dual band system is a no brainier. You do need to use your Phone or a tablet for the display and I think the Android moving map App called Avare (free) is the way to go.

I'm just learning about Stratux and Avare and attended a couple of workshops at Oshkosh. When I got home I picked up the DIY listed parts off of Amazon and this past

Flight Report #2
I flew the Q200 on Friday morning. Cool morning for Florida, only 85F and 85% humidity. The sky looked grey. No rain around but the vis was much below what we normally have here in West-central
