Re: Electronic Ignition Install - No Spark from Coils
Also, the Electroair Electronic Ignition says don't power up the unit without the leads connected to the plugs as it can damage the unit! Still apples to oranges.

Re: Electronic Ignition Install - No Spark from Coils
Correction: It is the Mini Sensor and not the Hall Effect (not sure it matters but wanted to correct that bit of info I sent earlier).

Hey Jim,
The lower RPM is actually the main reason I was installing this ignition system. Klaus says it will add RPM but I think he must mean in cruise and not idle.
Klaus seemed to think we had

Re: Electronic Ignition Install - No Spark from Coils
Corbin, you will not regret putting in Lightspeed electronic ignitions once you get them working. Hang in there, you’ll get it.
You’ll be able to idle at 450 rpm which is good for landings on

Re: Electronic Ignition Install - No Spark from Coils
Electronic is nice and gives the option of adjusting timing in flight. I upgraded to the SDS system and haven't looked back: easier starting, better fuel economy, cleaner plugs,

Re: Electronic Ignition Install - No Spark from Coils
I ended up using a hall sensor for my tach input. While testing I hooked an LED up in parallel so I would know that it was working properly. Might give that a try so you can narrow down the problem

Re: Electronic Ignition Install - No Spark from Coils
Well, no luck tonight. No spark rocking back and forth at #1 TDC, no luck rotating prop faster, and no luck having the starter have a go at it.
At this point, I’m assuming the sensor(s) are bad.

I'm at least glad that people like Corbin and Matt have embraced the "Quirky" lifestyle. Makes me sad to see high time Qs like this one passing through a growing trail of new owners unflown...

Re: Coughlin Brake Mount Drawings
HOLY SPUMONI, BATMAN! Don Coughlin was a freakin' genius!
Once assembled, this new version fits inside the mounts I currently have. Since the mounting hardware is identical, the difference in weight

The ad didn't have any photos or an n number listed, but based on the description, I am pretty sure it is Paul's plane.

Re: Jabiru Q2 on Barnstormers
I think this is Paul Spackman’s airplane. He sold it last year to a guy in Arizona. I don’t think that it has flown since he took it back there.
Cheers,
Jay

Re: Electronic Ignition Install - No Spark from Coils
The pickup for the Electroair needs 500 ohms to check “good”. Ohm it out. This may be apples to oranges though. Different company.

Jabiru Q2 on Barnstormers
Just saw this ad posted and came up empty trying to search the owner's name on the Q-List and quickheads. Looks like we can chalk another one up to the "successfully flying behind a Jabiru"
