I believe the Amsoil racer was a Q-2 (not Q1) design and Tom Jewett (Partner in QAC Company) did not walk away. It vecame his last flight. One of the test planes did crash as you mention and the pilot

After running all sorts of tests, cutting/pulling the instrument panel, checking all of the wires, etc., I solved the problem by removing my expensive headset and replacing it with a old cheap one.
