The Prairie du Chien airport is a great place. Two long runways, both in
great shape.

Kevin,
I am sure the airport there is beautiful with the Mississippi in the
back ground. To bad the manager isn't supportive. It is a long way
north also. Don't know if that would effect the numbers. Wasn't the
hotel right across the street? How about eating places?

For the benefit of anyone new to the group interested in Weight/Balance or

have not posted on the group site for several reasons (mostly its too
large; also a minor copyright question); but I will send directly to anyone

a "doc" file you can load into any word-processor.

We are installing a A084 in our Q1.I have hesitated to talk about it much as we have no imperial data as of yet . I will say that the numbers look good and the install is going straight forward and that the engine has proven reliable in other(more draggy ) designs, and that they are available at low cost and parts are easy to come by. I have a spare if anyone has an interest. We think it will make about 38 hp and we're going with a 42X40 prop . There's gads of info at yahoo groups surplus engines. If anyone has questions bring em on.

Well....if you know it all, have all the concept, can see how all the dots are connected, as often when you are over 60, you start to get a clue (I say start) , then you know the subject, it's a piece of cake, and the answers are completely obvious.

Here comes this guy, interested in the subject, but new in it, and in you eyes, he will ask the most complete uninformed stupid question there is.

Here is your choice, if you answer him, he will get the concept, and next question was perhaps a bit smarter, after a while he get the idea, and soone enough he have all the dots connected.

Float above him, ridicule the guy, roll you eyes, shake the head and smile, and all you have told him is that you are better, smarter and have more wisdom than he has, and you are not a source of information. However the only accomplishment is that you might sleep better at night, but you have not proved anything other than the earth is flat.

True, some learn faster some slower, some learn by visual, reading or watching. Some learn by audio, hearing it, some learn more by hands on, some learn with a combination of it all, and true idiots only learn when pain is involved.

I dont think we have to worry about those though, as administration of pain is rendered illegal, they will stay idiots.

Just patiently answer the stupid questions and sooner or later we all win.

But, the airport manager wants no one to come there. We had a young eagles

Speaking of fly-ins, Copperstate is right around the corner.
www.Copperstate.org Casa Grande Municipal Airport has a tandem-wing
friendly runway that's 5200 x 100 ft.
http://www.airnav.com/airport/CGZ

This year will be a little different... NO AIRSHOW! That means no
airport closure; come and go as you please. It also means that
conversations won't be drowned out by the endless ear-splitting
droning
of over powered little biplanes making endless smoking spins.

Another addition this year, that may not mean a lot to this group
but is
close to my heart, is the addition of a new award; one for the best
"alternative engine".

I'll be there (as usual) hosting the engine forums and presenting on
the
Corvair (as usual) but I'll also be presenting the Revmaster R-3000
(Joe
isn't able to make it) and will have a physical example, hopefully
hung
from a Zodiac CH 601 XL. Other engines of interest to us will be
showcased, namely the 1.3L Suzuki and the Hexadyne P-60.

Quoting gmichaelhuffman <mikehuffman@...>:

During my DAR workshop at Emporia, when we were talking about the
various types of airworthiness certificates, Charlie Johnson asked
what category was used to certificate SpaceShip One. I thought
everyone might be interested in the answer:

N-number: N328KF
Manufacturer: Scaled Composites LLC
Model: 316
Serial No: 001
Type Aircraft: Glider
Classification: Experimental
Category: Research & Development

Interesting, huh?
Yup. I heard the same thing--that the pilots had to get current in gliders
before they could fly Spaceship One.

Here's its page on the FAA's aircraft registration site:
http://registry.faa.gov/aircraftinquiry/NNumSQL.asp?NNumbertxt=328KF&cmndfind.x=0&cmndfind.y=0

In case that link doesn't come through on the list correctly, go to
http://registry.faa.gov/aircraftinquiry/NNum_inquiry.asp
and enter 328KF, Spaceship One's tail number.

best my brotha'!

On a side note; I tried to find a spot in the "Midwest" with and
airport and hotel/motel combined but haven't come up with anything yet.
It would be great to find a facility that had both hotel and diner
combined. Sedona, AZ has an airport with cottages on top of a mesa.
Bullhead City, AZ airport had a water taxi that took you right across
the river to the hotels etc. but that changed when they re-arranged the
taxi way. Livermore, CA had a hotel that was within walking distance
on the field.
It would be great to find something like that although I don't know if
it would bring any more Q's and D'flys.
Flight Guide said that something was coming up that helped pilots find
these kind of fields in the future. It will be on line I think.

I will keep my eyes open for something if it shows up.

Thanks

Everything is walking distance. We could have it their a week or two

Hi Earnest,

Rough River is really cool! When I lived in Nashville long ago, that's
where we went for the lunch on the weekends. Its actually a state run
park/lodge and usually just kept up beautifully.

True, they do not have taxi ways, but the Long Cozy guys seems to get
along with it and they have a much larger group than us. My biggest
concern on Rough River is two things, #1 its only 3200 feet and I'm
concerned it would keep some away. #2 It would be that much farther east
for anyone coming from the west coast.

If you were there yesterday, how planes did they have? Did you fly your
Q up?

Very Best Regards,

Spud

The Key words for Valentine is "out in the middle of nowhere". It would be hard to get to for those wanting to drive. Good vacation spot I've heard. It would be too far away for me to get things set up etc. I'm still looking at Beatrice NE, but I have done no leg work yet. Everyone Keep looking.

Hawkeye,
Check out Valentine, NE. 4700' x 100' runway that is maybe 200 yards from town and lots of hotels and restaurants. Self service fuel and a quiet airport in the middle of nowhere.

Hey Spud,
I have been checking the Flight Guide and have found several places
that might or might not be good. I checked up and down the "Mighty
Mississippi" and haven't found anything yet. Surely there is a resort
airport on the river that would be fun for everyone.

Beatrice, Neb -Hotel across the street also eating places 1/4 mile.
(Might not have to worry about catering). (Didn't Lynn French suggest
this place once.) There is also a State Park near by or adjacent.

Sallisaw, Okla- Don't know if that would be a player or not. Will ask
around here in Okla and see what the general consensus is.

Mountain View, MO Malones Motel 1/4 miles, Sport Bar and Grill 1 1/2
mile. Might be a little tough?

Prairie Du Chen, Wisc Black Angus Dinner across st. Hotels 1/4 mile.
On the Mississippi/Ohio River. Still it is way north almost to Oshkosh.

Mount Ida; Bearce, Ark Crystal Inn and Restaurant on the field. Adj
to a lake. However it is only 4000' X 50'

Hot Springs, Ark Lake Hamilton Inn 2 miles. Natl park adj to airport.

I will continue to check and see if anyone of the APB's (AirPort Bums)
have any suggestions. Also will check with Flight Guide when they
announce the new Hotel/airport service on line.

Thanks again for showing us such hospitality at Emporia. It could be
just the right place again for next year.
