Guys,

me.

He said:

1. That the reverse running probably caused a loss of oil pump prime.

2. A simple way to get prime back is to force low pressure air down the
crankcase breather vent thereby forcing oil up into the oil pump.

I haven't tried this yet but if it works it could be a handy trick for
those of us who have O200's.

I will let you know what happens.

I have made some changes to the QBA web site.  They are:

1) Reorganized the Resources page
   1a) Added a link to the Newsletter Index Search (this was left off by mistake and Sam Kittle pointed it out)
   1b) Added an O-200 Resource Page
   1c) Moved the Q1 Plans Changes to the Plans page

If you find something that doesn't work, let me know.  I have a few other minor things to add when I have time.

The silk thread is per the overhaul manual.  He is doing it theright way.
Get a current Overhaul Manual if you are doing real work on it.Also, TCM
has a very extensive list of the proper lubricants and sealants touse with

Sam, thanks. I talked with an A&P who does a bunch of O200s and hetold me
he seals the crankase halves with silk thread .No sealant and makesa loop
around oil passage and boltholes . hmmm I was goung to use Yamabondand
machine an o ring groove around through passage.

Damian, Damian,

A significant strike on a metal prop does requires disassembly of
the engine. However, a wood prop absorbs alot of that energy and
teraing down the engine not be necessary. Why don't you check the
run out on the crank flange first.

If it is in tolerance I would probably fly it. 

Several years ago I caught a rock on a 3 blade Turbo 210 that I
owned. The prop shop did the run out and filed all blades to match
and that was the end of it.

The silk thread is per the overhaul manual.  He is doing it theright way.
Get a current Overhaul Manual if you are doing real work on it.Also, TCM
has a very extensive list of the proper lubricants and sealants touse with

he seals the crankase halves with silk thread .No sealant andmakes a loop
around oil passage and boltholes . hmmm I was goung to useYamabond and

The silk thread is per the overhaul manual.  He is doing it the right way.
Get a current Overhaul Manual if you are doing real work on it.  Also, TCM
has a very extensive list of the proper lubricants and sealants to use with

Sam, thanks. I talked with an A&P who does a bunch of O200s and he told me
he seals the crankase halves with silk thread .No sealant and makes a loop
around oil passage and boltholes . hmmm I was goung to use Yamabond and
machine an o ring groove around through passage.

  show in a diagram the flow of oil . I am going to photocopy the parts
  diagram and using the link/photos and text, draw in the flow. Just for my
  own eddification. 
  You hand crank your engine.Did you just remove starter and blank off hole?
  What did you do about squirter passage?

Guys - more questions - but at least it means I've moved on a bit from the
Q-Talk article. With a wooden prop, is there anything that can be put on the
prop bolts and behind the front ring (crush plate?) to protect the prop from

it better to leave it alone. I am a bit concerned about water soaking into
the wood and also getting inside the hollow crank of the O-200. 

And another question - someone just wrote that the oil pressure sender is
slow to register on start-up because it's right at the end of the line.
Which shows the worst case (lowest pressure). But I also read somewhere that
pressure senders don't enjoy life on the side of the crankcase - too hot and
too much vibration - so I mounted mine on the filter housing. Is it better
to move it to the case to get more useful readings?

Sam, thanks. I talked with an A&P who does a bunch of O200s and he told me he seals the crankase halves with silk thread .No sealant and makes a loop around oil passage and boltholes . hmmm I was goung to use Yamabond and machine an o ring groove around through passage.

Damien - you have an old manual.  They frequently show up on eBay.

The newer O-200 manuals have a color diagram of the oil flow.  Mine are at
the hangar, so I can't get you a date of revision.

Yes, I just removed the starter and put the cover plate over it - nothing
else, as I recall.

Sam, thanks for posting that link. I bought an O200A manual and it does not
show in a diagram the flow of oil . I am going to photocopy the parts
diagram and using the link/photos and text, draw in the flow. Just for my
own eddification. 
You hand crank your engine.Did you just remove starter and blank off hole?
What did you do about squirter passage?

If you can elaborate a little on the plane, and any names you might
have, maybe by publishing a notice in CONTACT! Magazine that you are
looking for Ruth, and getting said notice published in the EAA magazines
