Your fuel burn rates are great. The only way to make them better involves making your plane more complicated (and less reliable) so its hard to argue with your plane just as it is. I fly a TSIO520P which does offer better fuel burn (lb/hp) but only when LOP. This requires: 1. tuned individual cylinder injection which a carbureted engine does not have. 2. multipoint engine monitor which I do recommend for any plane. 3.higher EGT which reduces exhaust system and exhaust valve life 4. CS Prop for lower cruise RPM. A lot more complication and perhaps greater engine maintenance costs. I like the Q200 alternative which reverts to he simplest engine possible and instead gets great mileage and speed by adopting the cleanest airframe possible. Nice! I also noted your liftoff speeds are very low and highlights the truth in any plane, which is when you fly at partial weights, your t/o and landing performances are much better. The old criticism of canards needing lots of runway apply more when flown at gross weight. Lighter weights make for a very attractive performer. And no flaps to worry about (and no gear either!). Thanks Jay! Funny thing is that I ended up using duct tape to hold it overnight but was worried if I put that in the video I would get the keyboard warriors responding. Very nice video. You do a lot of work to make a very watchable video. Only one comment. Duct Tape! Could have used duct tape to hold the heating pad in place while it cured. 😊 I love duct Tape.

When we all started this electronic journey our photos were quite small and storage space was tiny. We used to count kilobites. Now storage space is counted in Gigabites and a thousand old photos hardly makes a dent in storage. Granted I am not the one to say so but in my own forums we hardly even notice a few hundred images especially what today in considered low resolution. Thanks Sam. I think you will have to remove the photos from that file. I do not have permission to do that. I think it is best to leave it in the photo album. I put an explanation in the album description.

In the interest of conserving digital bits, it would probably be best to remove the photos in the Files section, so we don't have duplicates. I am open to suggestions for better ways of handling photos and files.
BTW, in the old Yahoo! group there was an automatic notifications when new files or photos were uploaded. With this new system that doesn't happen, so you did the right thing by announcing the new album, and posting the link.
There is a lot of flexibility in handling the photos. If you go the edit portion for each photo you can add a description, Might be handy for us.

I added photos to an album showing airflow from oil streamlines that were done by Larry Koutz way back when. I included a drawing that I did proposing revised wheel pant design based on Larry's data. Here is the link to the album on this group: https://q-list.groups.io/g/main/album?id=233044 These are duplicates of the ones in the files section: https://q-list.groups.io/g/main/files/Oil%20Flow%20Patterns but it is easier to view them online when they are in the photo album. I can delete the album if Sam thinks it is wasting too much disk space to have them in both places. Also..Sam, I did go back to Yahoo and all of the photos I mentioned are missing there too. I think that Yahoo did a purge a while back and arbitrarily deleted a bunch of files and photos before groups.io got their transfer thing fully in gear. Cheers, Jay N8WQ |

Tuft Testing Pants & differential brakes
Since we were already discussing individual brakes, I just uploaded a couple of photos on my system. My parking brake is simply a ratchet rope available at hardware stores everywhere. While I was at it, I added a couple of old photos of when I was tuft testing my original wheel pants. Notice the yarn lifting off the trailing edge of the wheelpant. That's airflow separation, and that's a bad thing. One of these days i'll have to repeat with my current wheelpants. I also have a drawing and photos of the Coughlin brake mount. If you need help automating tasks I can investigate. This is why I offered payment easy for you to simply walk into walmart and pick up the money from me. I'd understand if it was a matter where you were moving and had to get rid of them immediately but that isn't the case right? You told me one of the engines were sold because a guy offered more than youre asking price. If money was a motivation then Id also understand that but again obviously not the factor. I specifically mentioned that I wanted to get the engine paid for because this sorta thing has happened before and voila. I live on less money per week then many of you have spent on food today and what little I do have I try to make good investments and pay for having a future where I can build and fly airplanes. |

Jay, you are describing some of the problems with the old system. First off, I don't know if photos that were in the email itself have transferred. I suggest you look through your old emails which are archived on the new Q- list. Take a look and see if your on Old photographs are still attached and let us know what you find. With the new Q list, when you email a photo to the group it stays in a special file folder on the photo section called email. There it will remain, unless you download it yourself and then re upload it to your own personal album. In order to have photos in your album , you have to specifically upload the photographs into the album. Also, you might want to look in the files section and see if any of your photos are there. I noticed that my album has 19 photos. These are a scattering and a small subset of the ones that I submitted over the years. I only find 19 photos of probably 100 or more from the past decade or so. No big deal, I have copies on my computer for me, but most were accompanying an e-mail-thread that references the photo (usually more like a technical view or graph or drawing), so it could be useful to someone who finds the thread.
Anyway, just wondering what happened to the ones that did not make the cut.

Mike Dwyer and I have been working on the Photos section of the Q-list. When the photos were transferred over from the old Yahoo site, they were pretty much a jumbled mess. Mike and I attempted to sort them as best we could, grouping them into albums by Owner. If you are the Owner of an album, you have control over it, what goes in and what goes out. When they first transferred over, most of the ownership transferred to me, but we have been going in and changing the ownership to you. If Ownership of the album is Sam Hoskins, Sandy Hoskins, or Mike Dwyer, that means we can't locate the owner in the existing Q-List membership. If one of these are you, please shoot me an email and I'll fix it. Believe it or not, we spend several hours putting things straight and we aren't yet finished. Unfortunately, the photo albums do not contain sub folders, so if you had photos with several different themes (engine, Paint, Trailers, etc.) they are now lumped together. On of the big contributors has been Jim Patillo. What I tried doing was to create a second album for Jim called Jim Patillo -2 which featured his starter photos. Then I created a Jim -3, which is the start of his JimBob 6-Pack. You have permissions to move from one of your albums to another, but you can only do them one at a time. So, if you want to create albums, please go ahead, and if it's your second album, give it a -2, -3 number. Also, if you find photos that seem to be in the wrong album, let me know and I can move them. Files
