FOD after action report
Paul Fisher
Wow did we have a good time! The only real downside was the weather. 90+ degrees Fahrenheit in late September is about 20 degrees above normal around here. But the upside is the dome of high pressure that caused those temperatures made for severe clear skies! Overall we had 19 attendees and 12 airplanes:2 TriQ - Kevin Boddicker, Bruce Crain 1 Cozy III - Rod Herzig 1 Thatcher CX4 - Earnest MartinA big surprise was Nancy Marstall driving all the way from North Carolina to attend with Jerry. Since he broke seven ribs in a motorcycle accident a month ago we didn't think he would make it, but it was great to see them both. Honey Lamb was there, even though Mrs. Dugas doesn't believe she really exists. Dave took pictures, we're still not sure if she believes him! We were glad Charles Kuhlman from Marshalltown Iowa could join us in his Q-2. He was new to the group, but he seemed to fit right in! A few of our friends had mechanical or weather problems that prevented them from attending, but we look forward to seeing them next time. There was a lot of food but because of the temperatures the ice cream Saturday evening seemed to be a particular hit with everyone! I was surprised how much water and iced tea we went through, but it was good everyone stayed hydrated. Bruce Crain accepted the task of hosting next year's event. I hope all of you will consider putting it on your calendar and attending. The Quickie aircraft are very unique in the homebuilt industry, and their builders and fliers are even more unique! I hope everyone enjoyed themselves, and thanks again for coming! Paul and Tama Fisher Q-200 N17PF

I too made the LONG trip home. All safe and of sound mind. Paul, Tama, Terry. Thanks for all the hard work. If you weren’t there, shame on you. I you were it’s our secret! We also talked smack of Jimmehy. You gotta be there to defend yourself, its a tough crowd. I won’t intrude on Paul’s post of attendees or proceedings. Take it away Paul.

Landed safely back at home base Willow Run a little while ago. What a wonderful gathering of the unique quickie airplanes and their unique owners and builders. Great turnout. Enjoyed every moment of it in Davenport Iowa. Thank you Paul and Tama for being such great hosts. Enjoyed the entertaining company. Missed many. On my flight back as I was passing over South Bend, I heard Dave Dugan a few miles back on radio contacting SBN approach. Looks like Dave and Rod were making good time en route to New England. It was great spending some quality time with Quickie friends. Sanjay

The company was great, the food was great, it was nice seeing so many quickies together, and it was really neat seeing Terry's Cozy project. Till next time, Sam Sent via wireless Gizmo.

Re: Green Flight Challenger. . .

Good thinking,
The website was www.greenflightchallenger.com https://web.archive.org/web/20130801000000*/http://www.greenflightchallenger.com/ Wayback shows it becoming defunct in September 2013 with not much to see prior to that. But Dan mentioned trying to gather up some information on the plane (I do see where it didn't win it's competition) I'm just curious if anything came of that. I'm a little surprised not much else has shown up in the community (Quickmunity?) But then again the builders were at Mojave so what do they need guys like us for lol

What was the "Challenger" website? We can try looking it up on "The Wayback Machine". Sometimes I find old websites there. Norm P.

Did that interview ever occur Dan? I'd love to read it. The Challenger website is no longer up and I know I for one am still interested.

I'm sure cf to fiberglass and foam to honeycomb isn't a 1:1 swap, I'd love to see how the airframe changes with materials. And this being my first post I promise to come up with a better one in the future!

FOD arrivals
Paul Fisher
If you are planning to fly to Davenport this weekend (and I hope you are!), please remember to pack you tie down stakes and ropes. We'll be parking the planes in the grass. Weather is supposed to be severe clear all weekend, so we shouldn't have any issues. If you are driving in, come in the main entrance to the airport and go past the National Weather Service (looks like a huge volleyball on a five story platform - you can't miss it!) and turn right towards the T hangars. Gate should be open and you should find us. I hope to see you! Paul

Thanks Sam, but I don't have that many buddies. Seriously, I will do that if it gets too difficult. Right now, I am plugging along OK with it right side up.

Give Dave a commemorative mug when he arrives. If you don't have a mug, you can have Kevin give him a big hug instead!
No I don't sit on this group all day long. Just muti-tasking... Cheers, Jay

Re: Radio
In my humble opinion the best way to do it is to flip the whole fuselage upside down. Then you're not messing around you can get right to the task. G et four or 5 your buddies to come over and it'll take you all of 15 minutes to do it. Sam Sent via wireless Gizmo.
