Re: Q-Tour aircraft/pilots are needed
Hi Sam,
How about we work on Ray Johnson in Australia with that beautiful Q2 with UL engine that he posted on the Q2 facebook page? For those of you that have not seen it. I am posting a picture below. He says it is 573 pounds empty and has the 107 hp UL engine! Should be a fine flying machine.
Cheers, Jay

Q-Tour aircraft/pilots are needed
Hi gang.
You may have noticed that we haven't had a Q-Tour for a couple of months. It's not for a lack of trying, but the simple matter is, we need some folks to step up and volunteer. The Tours have been very well received and the feedback is it's a valuable resource and archive. Speaking of archives, you can see these fine folks and their aircraft here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCvpREq5dz5VjgcUFVNcoEhQ/videos So far, I'm counting 15 aircraft are featured. I know right now that going to the hangar may not be pleasant in the winter, but I'm sure we have some folks flying Quickies in the warmer climes. As for you folks in the Great White North, we'll catch you in the spring. We are also really interested in folks with flying Qs in other countries. Don't worry about the time difference, if you are willing, we'll make it work. If you would like to discuss it a bit, feel free to shoot me an email at sam.hoskins@..., or text me at 1-618-967-0016. I hope we can keep this going. Thanks for listening. Sam

Hot Wings,
If you've got the DWG or DXF files that would be a great help. I can run those through my CAD workflow all day long. Full disclosure, my ME friend started in on the Fusion 360 loft today to examine various FWF options prior to our full aircraft scan: And I've started a from-scratch OpenVSP model to replace this one and take advantage of the aero analysis capabilities in the latest VSP3 format: *IF* anything ever comes from it, I'll post it over on the Q-Performance list... -- -MD #2827 (still thinking about planning on visualizing how to finish building)

Re: Jigging
Hi Mike,
Chris' method is solid (no pun intended). They should have used that in the plans, as long as the floor is level. 😊
Cheers, Jay
-----Original Message-----
Mike------ What I have done with my projects is to leave the level jigs on the canard and bond the canard to the floor with bondo in the level reference called out for. Attach the fuselage and square it up canard tips to tail and make sure the fuselage is level. Glass fuselage to canard. Make sure fuselage is level and secure, then attach wing , level wing and measure wing tip to firewall and also to canard tip. Glass in place and go for a beer. Doing it this way, you only need help for 5 minutes at a time.
I think you were saying your canard is attached so just jump to step three. All three attachments are important , but the most critical is the relationship between the canard and wing. I always had level boards , digital levels and lazer levels, so it was no big deal.
have fun------------- Chris

If available I would be interested in info for jigging the wings to the fuselage

SW sucks at that. Try Rhino or some other software as an intermediary conversion. Or just ditch SW; it can’t do good aerodynamic surfacing anyway.

Bad news. My old TurboCad can still make nice paper prints but *.DXF, *.IGS, *.DWG just don't import to Solidworks. Creating from scratch would be faster than the manipulation required.

Are you drawing your airfoil templates from coordinates or just tracing the scanned documents? I’ve encountered so much distortion from scans that I’ve taken to recreating the drawings from raw data.

Re: Large Appendix Sheets
If you do create the DWG or DXF formatted files, it would be nice to have them on the Q-list files section. There are no copyright infringements, since QAC is long gone and left no ownership trail to their materials as far as I know.

Conversion to PDF works. If any one really wants *. DXF, or *.DWG conversions I'll put it on my 'to do' list. *.IGS into SW is a no go.

David:
Before you spend the time converting to CAD give me a few days to see how my old 2D TurboCad files convert to some universal format. I've already kind of promised to do so for another new Q-2 builder so It shouldn't be any extra work for me. I don't have all of the sheets, but I do have all of the airfoil templates/jigs and, IIRC some extras for profile finishing and alignment during fitting to the fuselage. Once I get my paperwork finished for the tax accountant I may even have some time to put them into SolidWorks for some pretty pictures.

Corbin, if you’d be willing to share your scans it would save me some time. I intend to redraw mine in CAD before I build anything from them….

I believe I have them all scanned at a resolution to print large scale. Which one(s) are you needing? Corbin

That's the thing; I'm not really sure which sheets I need since I've never actually seen them. The firewall and GU canard + wing templates is what started the search. Just wanted to make sure I hadn't missed a folder somewhere.
Thanks very much for the offer guys. I'll attempt to contact Jon Matcho and purchase the info pack+CAD files. I don't want to take other's time away from their projects except as a last resort. -- -MD #2827 (still thinking about planning on visualizing how to finish building) -- -MD #2827 (still thinking about planning on visualizing how to finish building)

Corbin not sure I need any, I just wanted to join this group. I built a Q-2 in the late 80's and no longer have it. I wrecked it and sold as is to someone. Flew it for 5 years prior.. I just would love to have another one...
