It seems that most of the avionics manufacturers have been introducing their latest ADS-B offerings with promised low pricing to get interest in the market. Then the price magically goes up quite a bit when the product actually makes it to market. Right now $1500 isn't too bad for an ADS-B setup provided you can install it yourself and have a place to mount it. When it comes time for me to equip the Q-1 it may be a challenge to find a mounting location. Experimental owners have it a bit easier than certificated. Right now it looks like it could cost me close to $6000 to equip my Grumman Yankee. Experimental aircraft should probably wait to see what the market brings closer to 2020 since they can be self-installed. I am waiting on both myself to see if any of the all-in-one transponder solutions get more reasonably priced. Hi Mike,
Where did you find it for $700? I am assuming we are talking about the ADS600-EXP. On the Navworx site the unit itself is $1149.00. Then you have to add at a minimum the TransMonSPE option unless you already happen to have one of the few new transponders that will interface with the ADS-B unit. With that, the GPS and UAT antennas the setup prices out at more than $1500. I have been watching this for a while as I have one experimental and one certificated plane to equip. It looks like I will be doing something different for each as the experimental may have lower cost options. I am waiting for a couple more years to see what happens. I am curious to see if Google and others will follow through on their claims of bringing a less expensive stand alone option to market. I knew you had some ADS-B answers! I am old school and have a mounted Garmin 296 (can switch to a 796 if necessary) both of which I think are WAAS capable. Sam Kittle suggested I call Garmin and discuss the possibilities with them. I will let you all know what they say. P.S. I uploaded an interesting pix of N46JP ( to photos) after arriving back in the Bay Area last Sunday evening. Take a look. It's a little different perspective and might be suitable for desktop background if some one was so inclined. The dream is still alive! I work at 3M with the qualification of Arospace adhesives to different OEMs. One of the main points on the qualification of a new adhesive is the mechanicals (in different temperatures if necessary), if you have a Technical Data Sheet of the original adhesive I can search for a compatible adhesive. I want believe that one of the main factors will be overlap shear for fiberglass bonding.

One error listed the Tg (delinking temp) of EZ Poxy as being 155 degrees. That is the ultimate Tg, not the initial Tg which is less than 40 degrees above the temperature at which the epoxy cured. Post curing raises the Tg faster than time, which takes months of exposure to elevated temps. That is why white paint is used. It only raises the underlying epoxy 10 degrees in sunlight.

Also, check out Seattle Avionics, they have ADSB in/out for $1499 and you get Fly-Q for a year for free. I’ve been using Seattle Avionics products for many years and I have almost no complaints ( was not real thrilled with their SkyPad II). Fly-Q has bee a great product, and like Foreflight, they are always upgrading the APP.

Check out "FreeFlight" they have ADS-B out (only) for $2K, or ADS-B in and out for about $3.7K. ADS-B out is what will be needed come Jan. 1, 2020, but "in" gives traffic and weather.

I am working a unique system that involves a heat box w/fan and smaller parts up to 6.5 ft long, not a complete Q2.

Post cures need to be controlled events. It is very difficult to follow a post cure schedule and keep the whole structure even temperature. That is why I use Aeropoxy and get a Tg over 150F. No need to post cure and take a chance of ruining your structure.
Your method will leave the structure with areas that the Tg increased and areas where it did not increase. Maybe if you build a giant rotating fixture and spin it the sun can heat the whole thing.
