Thought you guys might like this one. My mother in law sent it to me.
He left home about 8:30 a.m. to do some work in his hanger at the airport with his friends. On the way out the door he answered his wife's "what time will you be home?" question with "probably about 1:30, I'll have lunch at the airport." 1:30 came & went, 3:00 passed, 6:15, still not home, finally at about 7:00 pm he rolls in the driveway, and presents his wife with a pizza, and begins the apologetic story: "I finished cleaning the plane about 11:30, had lunch, and I started home, when alongside the road I saw this attractive girl with a flat tire on her car. I stopped to help, got the tire changed, and looked around for a place to wash my hands. She offered money, but I refused, so she suggested that I at least allow her to buy me a beer. She said there's a tavern just up the road, and they have a restroom, you can clean up a bit. I agreed to stop, we had a beer, then another beer, then a couple more, and I realized that this girl was not only pretty, she was very friendly, and a good companion to spend time with. Before I knew it, we were in the motel next door having sex. And that is why I am so late getting home." His wife looked him right in the eye and said "Don't bullshit me; you went flying, didn't you? Regards, Jim Patillo N46JP

Tandem Wing Fly-In Video
All,
I recently received Alan's 2010 Filed of Dreams video and it was a very fun watch. Really, it was a nice summary of the event and a nice review of the goings on. We were mildly astounded at the professionalism of Alan's creation, right down to the DVD jacket and the opening graphics. We only have two suggestions; Sandy wants to see some video of Alan capturing the event and I have a suggestion for naming the production company. Having Alan around, with the camera glued to his eye, has become a bit of a given, yet he was missing in the video. Let's see more Alan. My suggestion is to rename the company. I would suggest changing ir from Alan Thayer Productions, to Green Shorts Productions. Thanks for putting it together, Alan. Great job. Sam & Sandy

Re: Magneto (Ignition) Options for my 2100D
Brad Boyd <them_beans@...>
Dave,
Thanks for your response. My mag hasn't been used in probably 2 years, but sat for up to 20 years before that. I have never gotten a spark out of it since I bought my project (Nov '10) so I finally pulled the motor and removed the mag for inspection. I called Joe Horvath at Revmaster yesterday and he convinced me to just dive in and get it repaired. There is hardly any wear on it (15 hrs on the logs, started in 1983-84), so I plan to send it to Quality Aircraft in Tulsa to look at it (don't think it would need overhauling). It's the D4RN-3000 Dual Mag like I'm sure many Q2ers have. I have the info to install auto plugs and wires you provided, so I plan on completing that mod when I get my mag back..thanks. The cooling issue has come up several times, so I will have to include some ducting under my hood as well. Another shop I spoke with suggested removing the impulse coupling and installing a shower of sparks vibrator instead. I don't understand enough about this unit to know what that's about, but I am motivated to get this bird running again soon. Thanks again, Brad Brad Boyd N11FK - Quickie 2 Wilmington, DE 302-377-4479 On Mar 29, 2011, at 20:23, Dave Dugas <davedq2@...> wrote: Hi Brad [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

Does your mag need rebuilding? After sitting for 17 years, during my Q2 construction, the points oxidized and weren't delivering any spark. I filed them and flew for over 250 hours. I have a 1" duct hose that blows into the magneto box. I switched to auto plugs and installed automotive resistor wires about 300 hours ago...and changed points and condensors. The gears looked new so I lubed, timed the mags, and reassembled. Never had any problems. Does your magneto have a lot of hours? Dave Dugas

Martin,
I am a Quickie 2 owner, but saw a similar V-twin Briggs and Stratton Vanguard (22hp) mounted on a SD-1 Minisport not long ago, so maybe the mounts are similar? http://www.sdplanes.com/sd1buildersa.htm Another builder appears to have mounted a V-twin motor on angled aluminum. If you do end up using the Bendix build a cooling shroud over it and duct cooling air to it. And A and P friend of mine said the weak link in the Bendix 3000 is the fact that there is something in it that doesn't stand up to heat very well and it will let you down. Bruce

Magneto Options for my 2100D
Brad <them_beans@...>
Q-List Experts,
Efforts to resurrect my old D-3000 dual mag have left me wanting a better system, and I'd like some reasonably priced options, if possible. The Electroair EID and LightSpeed electronic ignitions look amazing, but I can do a heck of alot for $2000 plus (the cost of 2 identical CDI systems)! Some of you have the single 4316 Slick Mag along with an electronic ignition on the other...what CDI systems are you using? I saw that Great Plains has an Electronic Oil Pump Secondary Ignition System ($550) and it looks pretty sharp..but will it work on a Revmaster and is anyone using it here? I appreciate your guidance, opinions and input in advance. Thanks, Brad B W Boyd N11FK - Quickie 2 Wilmington, DE 302-377-4479
