Vern, These center hinges have failed before. Steel is a lot better in fatigue than Al but if the inflight stress levels are close to the limit it is an insidious problem. It is obviously not a shear

Apples and oranges. 2000 hr TBO refers to the bottom end. Cylinders are routinely replaced many times before an “overhaul” Lots of engine failures are the result of maintenance induced failures (MIF)
