I had a friend who tried to buy this airplane about 9 months ago. He had cash in his hand ready to buy it, but the owner put so many restrictions on the sale that I am not sure anyone would ever be able to register the airplane. He would not provide a bill of sale or even disclose the aircraft tail number. He was so secretitive that you would have sworn it was some kind of a drug deal. I do see in the pictures now posted on eBay that you can see the N number, maybe he realized he would never be able to sell the airplane with such stipulations. I understand people are very concerned about getting sued.....if you (not really you) are that worried about it just cut the plane up and sell off the parts. It sure looks like a pretty airplane. The airplane is located about 100 miles from my home near Springfield, MO. Maybe someone can give me a good reason to fly down to Springfield to take a look at it. I flew about 1.2 hours today....just out boring holes in the sky with my Dragonfly. There is a builder on this list who is familar with this airplane and may be able to provide additional information about the quality if someone is interested. I am not going to volunteer him, but if you ask he will probably reply. Jeff -----Original Message-----

condition, I have upgraded the brake mounting bracket and serviced the "Airheart Brakes." After totally dismantling the brakes & purging the old mineral oil fluid from the system, I am unable to completely bleed the brakes, i.e. with the first compression of the brake cylinder (conventional arm rest mounted handle) I consistently get air in the line with negative brake. These are the differential type Airhearts' with independent approximate 5" brake cylinders with 1 ea. bleed valve per cylinder. The calipers have 2 ea. bleed valves. I've tried bleeding from the top down and several times from the caliper bleed valve up through the cylander valve with a "mityVac" vacuum system! No luck. Realizing this is a hybrid old system - is there a special tool or technique I'm missing or should I scrap the Airheart system altogether? Thanks, Joe -----Original Message-----

Bob, I had the same problem with calipers and master. You can change all seals to different ones made for DOT fluid' or use the OEM one"s with red aviation fluid. I choose the later.

My hanger mate and I found a large oil can with a pump. While one of us pumps the brake fluid from the bottom the other watches the top to make sure it doesn't run over. The oil can is big enough that we can pump the system full with out stopping and refilling the reservoir. Then the pump guy tightens the bottom bleed nut.
If you have a low place in the brake line it will be hard to get all of the air out. Also the position of the caliper with respect to trapping an air bubble in it should be looked at. You may need to take the caliper loose and use a c-clamp to hold the puck while you position it so that no air can be trapped. Check to make sure that the connection from the pump to the bleed nut doesn't have an air leak. It will shread into particles and get into your system. Try having helper pump up brakes and hold pressure on the master crack the upper bleed valve and before the flow stops close the valve. After a couple of cycles stop and refill the master cylinder. The whole system will be under pressure all the time the bleed valve is open air cannot get in. I have to actually pull my wheel cylinders off the axles and turn the cylinder (not Airheart) toget all the air out. Regards, Charlie a.k.a. One Sky Dog flying Dragonfly |

Airheart offers both types of seals now (DOT 5 or Mil-H-5606). I'm trying to determine which would be compatible with the Mil-H-83282 synthetic fluid mentioned in an earlier post today. It looks like good stuff, and since I'm working on brakes now, I may as well use it. Thanks again for mentioning that brake master cylinders on Quickies should be the non-reservoir type. I had some Matco MC-5's I was going to use, but hadn't thought about trying to add fluid later. Now I've got the MC-4's and a remote reservoir.
