Dumb Question #47

RICHARD GLIMES

What happened to the Taylor Paper Glass process of composite lamination? Did it just die when Molt Taylor died? Laminated Kraft Paper, laminated solid fiber board and 90# liner board make good core material . de Havilland Aircraft left a gold mine of information from their five year of building the`Mosquito bombers. They chemically treated the plywood they used was treated with a fire retardant which you could not sit on fire with a blow torch. Experimental means just that, such construction freedom should be used to develope new ideas and methods,as well as updating old ideas. Long before Rutan the Japanese designed and built a swept wing,counter-rotating pusher prop, cunnard 466MPH fighter intercepter, long before the Long Eazy was ever
thought of. It was the only pusher prop fighter placed into production in WW2. What we need is
a low cost verison of the Facet Mobile which would cost in the price range of a compact automobile.A airframe built almost entirely out of composite laminated panels, and bulkheads.

But if you want to go fast there isn't much that a homebuilder can work with
other than foam and glass that will give you the surface stability and
accuracy needed.

Ok - I have asked some strange things before and this one probably tops
the list.

Why couldn't these birds be built as frame and stits fiber?

Just curious....

They could Tad, and you could build a Cub out of fiberglass, but that might take away for the whole concept. No question is a stupid question unless you ask it twice. Can't remember where I heard that one...
