Jim P. I think I flew into Shawnee quite a few years ago and liked it. It does have a Mexican food restaurant 1/2 mile away and a hotel also 1/2 mile. It is a long way from Oshkosh if we are going to meet the weekend before (probably about 8 hr flight). I still like Beatrice, NE as it has 2 cafes within 1/2 to 1/4 mile also a hotel across the street and another 1/4 mile and Holiday Inn 1 mile with a nice meeting place and I think it has a cafe. The person at the Beatrice airport said they would be able to transport us around the immediate area in vans also if we were to put on a fly in there. Beatrice would be a 2 hopper to Oshkosh for me so it is a little further than I would like but completely do-able. The 2nd leg would be arriving into Oshkosh with plenty of fuel (very important item). I am still waiting to see if I can get the week off during Oshkosh. Should be about 8 more days or less before I know anything. If anyone can find a field that has the hotels and cafes virtually across the street that is closer to Oshkosh please let us know. Don't forget the rest of the parameters that need to be in place for and efficacious event location. Beatrice I still really close to me. I'd be able to help someone out in the planning and arrangements. Beatrice has a fairly new main runway also.

Shawnee, OK - KSNL only has 1 runway. Fort Smith, AR - KFSM has a control tower. I think if all other things were equal, most everyone would prefer to have the fly-in at an airport that was in Class G or E airspace. If I am wrong, please chime in. The first time Gene walked onto one of the movement areas to get the perfect fly by photo I think we would be reined in. Jeff -----Original Message-----

Are us Dragonfly guys welcome? Are you talking about a little informal get-together for a few friends or organizing the FOD fly-in? I talked to Terry on the phone the other night for about 30 minutes (thanks for calling Terry, it was great talking to you) about the possibility of using Davenport for the FOD fly-in and he suggested we would be better off continuing to look for another location. Doug thought that Iowa City was a little too busy for a FOD fly-in. I am sure it would be a GREAT place for a few guys to fly-in for the weekend. That aviation themed hotel right on the airport is very convenient. It should only be about a 2 hour flight to Davenport or Iowa City in my Dragonfly. Jeff -----Original Message-----

Jim,
I've flown into KSNL in my Q2 and it is about as quiet as an airport can get and still have a paved runway. Its only about an hours drive from OKC for people who want to take the airlines. Brian Bulaw N24H Q-3300 in progress Shawnee, OK - KSNL only has 1 runway. |

Only reason I brought those two areas up is my original home is Ft.
Smith and I've flownn into Shawnee a few times. Both are adequate with facilities but maybe to far away from helpers! Brian,
I flew in and out of there a few times in 2004 and found it ot be quiet as well with no CT. My uncle is the ex sheriff so we would be politically correct and I'm sure the local media would want to cover it. Jim P. We live in a C space and under a class B space. Whats wrong with control towers? They're pretty handy. --- In Q-LIST@..., "Brian Bulaw" <BrianBulaw@...> wrote: airport can get and still have a paved runway. I don't think an airport which has a control tower disqualifies it. For those who don't have a radio, it's real easy to call ahead and make arangments with the tower for flying in.

Aside from the lack of near by motels, Topeka airports would be a good bet.

Having said that, even if you rented a car from "Kansas Air" at Billard, you could be in a hotel/motel in 5 minutes. Forbes... 10 minutes. When will it be time to fish or cut bait? I would like to show off my Super Quickie, by then I should have its new paint job finished? Seabeevet On 10/15/06, Danny Creech <dannycreech@...> wrote:

Sorry guys,
I will be unable to attend Oshkosh again this year. I have been at UPS for almost 25 years and been bumped by higher seniority drivers again. Several have been there for 32,33 34 years because Jimmy Haffa has stolen our retirement so they cannot retire. Thus they take up much of the summer months vacations especially during July. Tee Hee,
That's what Jimmy Hoffa Sr. would have done! Although the preferred method was "cement overshoes" wasn't it? They do seem to be out of touch with us "low lifers" that actually make the money and pay them for "taxation without representation". Bruce Bruce, why don't you just shoot them? Mark A. Pearson <wlkabout@...>
Since you mentioned taxation. There is an answer. It eliminates the IRS, income taxation and functionally (and really) untaxes everyone below the poverty line. It is called the Fair Tax (it is H.R. 25;S. 25). While I won't use this forum to get on my soapbox, I recommend everyone check out www.fairtax.org.
