Video - Top of Tail
Jon Finley <jon@...>
Hi all,
My video camera (mounted on top of the tail) finally worked this past Friday. Neither the footage or flying is all that great but it is something. I also see some "issues" with my plane that I need to work on as a result of this footage. The two most recent videos here: [http://www.vimeo.com/user2947046/videos] http://www.vimeo.com/user2947046/videos Jon Finley N314JF - Q2 - Subaru EJ-22 [http://www.finleyweb.net/Q2Subaru.aspx] http://www.finleyweb.net/Q2Subaru.aspx P.S. No audio on either of these vids. |

I use the elevator for my roll trim.

Very enjoyable! Thanks for that!
I'm trying to sell my SuperQuickie. If you hear of anyone interested let me know. Rotax 503 needs work and a paint job, she is as good as new. Dick On Sun, Jan 16, 2011 at 11:10 AM, Jon Finley <jon@...> wrote:

Jon,
What is causing the sides of the fuselage to look like they are flexing on final? Neat video. No flying since November! Been a bad flying winter so far. Hope it straightens soon. I have little sanity left. Kevin Boddicker TriQ 200 N7868B 194 hrs Luana, IA. On Jan 16, 2011, at 11:10 AM, Jon Finley wrote:

Cool deal Jon! Looks like your right aileron is a bit up. If this is true you may try adjusting your elevators a bit so the ailerons are neutral? Also, how did you mount to the tail? Looks like a pretty good spot, better than I thought. Great job!

the digital camera. At 3:39 you can see the shadow of the camera sweep across the turtle deck. Judging by the right aileron, it looks like things are a little out of rig. Fix that and you might pick up a few MPHs. Sam On Sun, Jan 16, 2011 at 2:05 PM, Kevin Boddicker <trumanst@...>wrote:

I don't know and I haven't had time to research it. I bet it is not a mystery to the videography crowd. May also have something to do with the wide-angle lens and/or lots of buffeting (air flow) and the camera is trying to deal with it.

You guys have spotted one of the problems, there is at least one more. However; I do not believe fixing the out of trim condition is so easy. Currently, the elevators are set such that there is (about) no roll at cruise. I have not yet had time to thoroughly contemplate this issue but factors at work during that flight were a pretty good wind from port (west/left side while cruising) and that big 'ole camera taped to the top/left of the tail. Picture of the picture taker attached - not positive that it will make it thru. I noted that my wide-angle lens also has some magnification. It would be a better picture without that magnification. Jon -----Original Message----- |

Where are you located? My Q2 has generated a lot of interest at my small airport (N57) and if you're not on the Left Coast, you may get some calls. Brad B W Boyd N11FK Q2 Wilmington, DE 302-377-4479 On Jan 16, 2011, at 14:33, FR Jones <seabeevet@...> wrote:

Right Aileron is up -- but is he flying solo? If so might be the trim needed? Any Comments on Aileron trim vs. Elevator? Ease of installation, forces, area, drag??? Thanks, Mike Perry On 1/17/2011 5:27 AM, Sam Hoskins wrote:

Jon,
Is that why you moved to NM? So you could ask the aliens in Roswell how to put the plasma drive on your plane? :) Looks like you are holding left aileron to fly level. Normally I would expect right aileron to fly level with single pilot. Is that what you are referring to? Now I really want to measure your wings. Maybe I can get down there this spring. Should be about 2.5 hours for me, but my plane is down for annual right now. Cheers, Jay Scheevel - Tri-Q still building |
