Q200 Empty Weights

quickieaircraft

I just spent a couple hours compiling the following list of empty weights. Please feel free to correct anything out of date or incorrect and add yours--most of these numbers are from emails on this list.

'Quickie AC' [604]
'Sam Hoskins' [640]
'Sanjay Dhall' [675]
'Bob Farnam' [703]
'Bruce Crain' [704]
'Paul Fisher' [727]
'Dave Chalmers' [736]
'Kevin Boddicker' [747]
'Jim Patillo' [775]
'Charlie Harris' [832]

Mean = 717 lbs, standard deviation 65 lbs.

When you finish snickering because I included the mythical QAC build, I'd be interested in any presumed causes or effects of the weight differences (EG, minimalist vs well equipped.)

I've started a similar list for Q2s and if I get a chance, maybe even CG position.

Just for curiosity, where did you get the "Quickie AC" 604 number? I
thought they listed the Q-2 at 475 pounds and the Q-200 at 505 pounds.
Also they where very proud that the empty airplane weighed less than
half the listed gross. Yes, I know we question the reliability of the
number, just curios where you got 604 for QAC?

Good catch! I actually double-checked that number, but inadvertently looked at Dragonfly numbers. Viking claimed 604 for a plans built Dragonfly--I suspect this number is as amusing to Dfly owners as 505 is to you.

With additional numbers (and discarding QAC numbers as unverified), I see a mean of 726lb, std dev 59lbs.

In any case, it's hard to imagine a 500 lb Q200, but maybe some of the minimalist builders can.

Correct W/B for N46JP is 740 lbs.

In August 2000 when we weighed N46JP first time CG, it was 753 lbs.

Since that time, I removed the old Cessna starter and replaced it with a B&C starter. Removed two mags and replaced them with two lightspeed ignitions.

Hi

Hopefully just uploaded a replacement file excel Q Taildragger Brakes and weights, ammended to take into account recent info. Also Jpeg in GOBXOY photos album.

NB. I had Jim Patillo's as 775 but changed it to 753 as I noticed that was the figure in Jim's weight and balance.

I have Charlie Harris's at 883 and made a note about the 832?

Hopefully there aren't any howlers?

Sam were did the extra 50lbs come from?

Jim

Thanks I will update the 26th Excel and repost in a few days, there is nothing like pilot/owner conformation of data.

The 775 i got from a message (wrong) and when quickie aircraft posted the fig he had got from posts I re-checked and came accross your w&b, so changed as that was your data.

I'm a bit paraniond about weights, and Jims also just confirmed possible savings for the switch. B&C says 4.3 to 5.2lbs saving for their stater, Plasma III are 1.7lbs and the IIs @ 1.1lbs bendix from memory (Don't shot me if I'm out) are about 6lbs each slics are less so 13lbs is right on the money.
