Insurance Survey Status
Thanks guys,
Jerry
Dan and Jerry----- This may not be of any help, but in Canada I get my insurance from March insurance. With this company if you want to insure the airplane hull, you can pay extra, but if you just want basic coverage instead of insuring the airplane you insure the pilot. I have half a million in combined liability and passenger hazard and it cost me 660 per year. I also have two flying airplanes, a Dragonfly and a Super Quickie and this policy allows me to fly both under the same policy. Basically I can fly any airplane and have the coverage follow me. But wait. It gets better. Anyone with a valid pilot license living under the same roof as you is also covered. My wife is also a pilot so she is covered under the same policy. Can’t get much better than that. Take care----------- Canada Chris

Thanks to all of you folks that responded to Dan's email. So far we have 24 responses which includes 6 that have insurance. Would sure like to have a larger sampling. If you are thinking about participating, all I need now is a "yes". Have already gathered some interesting information. Of course, the results will be distributed to all. I will assume that if you haven't responded by the end of the week, that you are opting out and I will start gathering/organizing info from the insured.
Thanks guys,
Jerry

On Checkout Standards for QBA insurance rate (from some email traffic between Jerry and myself).
Since we are a small group, the advantage from the insurance company's perspective will be less in the number of pilots (6 as of last count), but in some better Q-specific training.
If we do a group negotiation, our application
will be much stronger if we show that as a community, we have developed some training/transition program with a ground component (eg, reading the Q accident case studies and completing an open-book quizz on them), and some specific hourly requirements and demonstrated
performance (eg, Grumman checkout for TriQ brakes, min 5 hrs of “observing time”
aboard a flying Q in the last 90 days, etc).
You would then fill out a 1 page sheet on which you self certify that you have met the requirements by checking off boxes (that way no one in QBA picks up any additional liability), and your getting the QBA discount would be contingent upon your completion of these. Otherwise, you'd be getting the standard rate.
If there is interest, I can volunteer to head this one up, as I'll be paying more attention to a training program in the coming months as I approach flying status, but it might be more appropriate if someone with more flight time was in
charge of it.

TriQ 15hrs
On Checkout Standards to qualify for the group rate (from some email traffic between Jerry and I).
Since we are a small group, the advantage for the insurance company will be not in numbers (6 pilots as of last count), but in pilots with some higher standard of Q-specific training.
If we do a group negotiation, our application will be much
stronger if we show that as a community, we have developed some
training/transition program with both a ground component (eg, reading the Q accident case studies and passing an open-book quizz on them), and some specific hourly flying related requirements and demonstrated
performance (eg, Grumman checkout for TriQ brakes, min 5 hrs of “observing time”
aboard a flying Q in the last 90 days, etc).
We'd have a 1 page document on which you self-certify that you have met these requirements by checking the boxes off (that way no one in QBA picks up additional liability), and your getting the QBA-discounted group rate would be contingent upon that those standards--if not, you'd pay the standard rate.
If there is indeed interest, I can volunteer to head up
this, at least for the TriQ's, as I'll be putting some effort into new training as I approach flight, but it might be more appropriate if someone with more flight hours was involved.
