Tri-Q with Revmaster for sale

Jay Foss

Hello group
I am going to sell my Tri-Q with the Revmaster 2100 I listed in on Barnstormers a while ago, got a few nibbles but nobody serious. The listing has expired and I am going to list it again but thought I would put it out here first this time. Please pass the word along to anybody you may know off list. Thanks
Iam looking to get $15,000 US for it. It was built in 1987 flew as a standard Q2 then after 10 hrs the builder converted it to the Tri-Q. It flew again in 1997 had 350hrs on it. Basic day VFR instrumentation
MGL V10 radio, engine was rebuilt 300 hrs ago. Has all the Revmaster upgrades. Just finished the conditional inspection all good to fly away. I fly it every once in awhile but bought a Grumman Tiger to have four seats so I hate to see it sit. It has been hangars all its life and is in great condition. I have attached some pictures, hope they come through if not message me and I will pass them on. Airplane is located in Alberta Canada.
Thanks
Jay Foss

Nice airplane, Jay. If I recall correctly, this was the one where the fuselage was built from scratch. Is that right?  What is your empty weight?

Cheers,
Jay Scheevel, Tri-Q, still building

Those 1" ball air vents may work ok in Canada but are totally inadequate in Florida!  I hate to be negative but the forward hinged canopy system has got to be heavy and in a roll over I'd think that would be the hardest to get out of.

No worries in my option about the forward hinged canopy during a roll-over.  It will be broken.  At least that's my experience.

My N200 has a forward hinged Canopy equipped with quick release joint that makes it possible to pull pins, breaking the hinge links to facilitate rapid egress.

I much prefer the forward slide setup Bob Malechek build for N870BM

Nathan,  so good to see you are still out there.  Hope you can make it to one of our fly-ins (if the wx ever cooperates) in the near future.  Would sure enjoy seeing you again.

I'm with Nathan on the canopy doesn't much matter what style you have when the plane is upside down on the ground none of them open. The one out in Colorado with a split tail and Glassair 1 style doors will let you out. Been trying to find it again for the last 4 + years

Thanks Jerry.  Miss you all too.  I'm climbing the seniority list every day and can even occasionally get a weekend off!

Hello Richard:

Thanks for the insight. This does point out that there are quite a few failure modes and effects to consider. A TriQ with a collapsed nose wheel and an engine fire combined with a forward sliding canopy. So many potentialities to consider.

Regards,

Phil

Phil,
My TriQ200 had the push forward canopy when bought and I changed it to forward hinged because of an accident Witnessed back in 1990 at Cranfield fly-in in UK where the nose leg collapsed on landing (old style) and the engine caught fire , and as the guy opened the canopy (push forward canopy) the flames blasted up the inside of the canopy and burnt his arms and face. That made the forward hinged canopy the only way to go for me, if your upside down it'smash your way out anyway.

Thanks Jay

It weighs in at 635lbs empty. Yes it was a scratch build but not by me. Built by a guy in Abbotsford BC
