Quickie Q1 / Q2 Material

Dear Q-List member,

I´m on the way to investigate the requested foam material for build the aircraft parts. In the quickheads forum I catch that information below.  It would be glad if somebody added additional information or in best case a source, aircraft spruce is already knowed so far.

Q1 and Q2 Foam Material list 

Color description Source

blue foam styrofoam-1.6 lb/cu.ft. ?
Red 6 lbs/cuft ?
Gold/White 3.4 lbs/cuft ?
Blue 1.6 lbs/cuft ?
orange or green urethane 210 2.0 lbs/cuft  ?

Hi Eugen,

 

I never used the green urethane foam. The fuselage shells were built using ¼” foam (rear shells) and 3/8” foam for the forward shells. They were made using vacuum bagging in female molds. The fiberglass used for those shells was lighter than the 9oz bidirectional fiberglass that is used for wings/bulkheads/fuel tanks.  I am not sure of the weight of that cloth, since the shells were pre-built at the factory. There was one Tri-Q built in Canada without the use of the pre-made shells, so it is possible.

 

All of materials you list below are available from Aircraft Spruce.

Please find in the attachment the technical data sheet for the aircraft spruce units with part# 01-10600 large cell XPS PIB Extruded Polystyrene Pipe Insulation Billet and 01-09400 small cell STYROFOAM™ Brand Extruded Polystyrene Foam (XPS). I get this technical data sheet after a request at Aircraft spruce. The main different are the Compressive Strength with 20psi (large cell) and 25psi (small cell) is around 20%, density of 1.6lb/cu ft (large cell) and 2 lb/cu ft (small cell) is around 20% too.

Totally understand.  Then best option is to use the link below to unsubscribe.  No password needed as it works as any other site.  Or you could use the "forgot password" option and manage appropriately.
