How Much Cable Play between Rudder and Tailwheel in Q2?

I have about a half inch of play in relationship to my tail wheel. This is still pre-Six pack, so cable comes from wheel to rudder. I haven't figured out where in the plans this number might be, anyone know?

Is thy that with the tail wheel off of the ground? The tail spring flex will perhaps make it tighter when the load is off. You can take the slack off the cable by putting a couple of springs from one cable to the other which pulls them together in the middle. As you push the rudder peddles left and right the springs move with them. Hope this is clear as mud.

Bruce is correct, you have to adjust the cable to the rudder with the tailwheel spring unloaded. If the cable is too loose, you can encounter rudder flutter at the higher speeds. This is unnerving, as it shakes the crap out of the entire aircraft. The stock method is a shitty design. Regards, Sam . Here’s another cable option that allows for differential between rudder and tailwheel but Sam’s
set up is a lot easier to install especially on a finished airplane. Like he said, no destruction. (This is one of the six pack mods). I think this mod is like dual finger brakes vs dual toe brakes, it’s a matter of individual taste. They both accomplish the same thing. Jim Patillo N46JP Q200 |
