Yes.. I've personally seen the Tupolev in Russia the times I have been there. ALL of them parked (thankfully). And for
good reason!!
I have to love the Russians..well..because I am married to one. But the fact is they have a lot to learn about
mechanics as far as aviation powerplants go. No such thing as building codes either! Old parts of Moscow are a
nightmare of electrical wires strung all over the high rise
apartments (the fire stairs were stolen long ago sold
as scrap). No such thing as a thermostat in any apartment.. if you get too hot in Winter just open the windows!
God help anyone in a building fire because no chopper could get through the rats nest of wires...too high
for fire truck ladders. Still I miss being there. Maybe with Covid getting somewhat in control we can get back.
My wife is from the South part of Russia.. Krasnodar. My brother-in-law and mother-in-law live there.
I bet them picked over Tupolevs are still sittin there on flat tires...at Krasnodar airport.
My first flight in a turbine aircraft was a Continental -200. I was in heaven. What a hotrod (in my eyes anyway)
Loved them colors and that was one heck of an aircraft too.
Of course I was on the path to one day be a pilot.. just
never made it to the heavies. Got no complaints tho..I met a lot of folks and learned a few things on the way too.
Them S ducts for #2 were still being made in 1992. Good story why!

Even with the leading edge slats down in flight ha ha, a no no later on. There are still a few around.
I think the Russians stole the design because I remember they flew 3 holers that looked very similar. When I flew them you could still put the rear stairs down. That’s how young I am😎, but I’m still as excited about airplanes as I was when I was 15.

Well..I sure did!! Anyone that has flown a three holer becomes head of the class for me! I built parts for that aircraft!! Funny story and one day I hope we can chat about it at FOD or another get-together, Jim.

flying machine...and your honet personal reflections on your journey especially. Hats off!!
Now if I can only find those "250 hours" in my "part time" to complete my perpetual 50% completed project.. Thats funny..
and I do remember the supposed 500 hour time to build advertised.
Yes..it only takes 3.5 days to build a 777..BUT..that is not counting the many "man-years" of parts and labor getting to the factory and the fact that everyone had a coordinated
action to get at that rate. Kinda like them cooking or gardening shows where everything is instantly in place or already made!
