Crazy OSH departures on Saturday
Below is a link to the video of OSH departures right after the field went VFR at noon on Saturday. Gives you a good feel for the pace of things, and also you can see how poor the visibility was. Just barely VFR. My takeoff is shown starting at 2:50 or so.

Fun departures. It seems most of the time I've had departures on 36L, which calls for a right turn before you get to the tower. Then follow the lake shoreline below 500 feet until five miles south, then you're on your own. They want you at or below 500 feet to stay below any arriving aircraft. Hi Sam,
18 departures are side by side on the main runway only. If you line up on the left side of runway, then is 150 is your heading below 500 AGL to 5 miles, then you are on your own. Right side stays runway heading to 5 miles. Unfortunately, I was going off the left side and wanting to fly west after 5 miles, so I was pretty vigilant. The incoming planes are 1800 or 2300 MSL depending on speed, so I stayed at 2000 MSL flying west. RVSM anyone?

Right, Vern. I have twice as many wings…for redundancy! What you cannot see, but you can hear in the controller’s voice, is that we were doing side by side takeoffs from the intersection, (where I was) …AND… simultaneously from the threshold on the north end of 18. This is why you hear him occasionally say “…you have traffic coming up behind you!” in an insistent voice once he has cleared an intersection takeoff!

Yes, almost all the way. I was flying west a 10.5K MSL, due south of Cheyenne, WY and I could not see the mountains. I had 3 miles vis, but just barely. The smoke has moved west now and we are IFR most days here in western Colorado now.

Hmm. Been there a few times. I was part of the engineering folks working the Goldendale windfarms at the same time I was on Contract at Boeing Everett....and that was several times...beginning back in 1997. I was in school at Lynnwood and in Arlington Washington
in the late 60's/early 70's. And yes I did see the billboard on I-5 that said "would the last person in Seattle please turn out the lights".
Even though I am originally from Kansas (Wichita) I do know how to say Washington without adding an "r". Never know, but sometime I'd like to attend Arlington E.A.A. again. Fly-in rather than drive.

Good thing is the entire western part of the State is a flat field of some kind. Hazy has cleared but right now the
heat is on...hopefully it will be more to average by mid September.
