Brief flight report

Jay Scheevel

Went up this morning for an early fall flight. The weather was beautiful and air was smooth. It happened that my good friend, Randy Miller was hopping a ride in his Stearman for another friend of my family, who at 68 took her first flight of any kind.  I really just had to come up along side to say “hi”.  The smoke is a nice way to track yourself into formation. Hope to see you all in Enid!

Cheers,

Jay Scheevel. Tri-Q2 N8WQ, 177 hours.

That’s awesome Jay!  Must have been just hanging on the prop to form along side the Stearman!
Yep!  Looking forward to Field Of Dreams!
The weather is looking good so bring it on!!

Bruce a Jay,
Good news and good pictures from you both!
I had a little shake down flight from KBVU to KFLY with a stop at KFMN   I took the southern route through Lavita pass.  2 hrs 20 minutes to the first stop. ( true 155 knots) ground speed 160 ish. Second leg was 1:45 to KFLY.  Return trip was almost the same speeds because of not much winds aloft. Jays density altitude table is very close. My take off role with a slight up hill grade with a 7 knot head wind was 2500.  Airport elevation is 6800 and density altitude at takeoff was 8700. I climbed around 5 to 600 feet a minute.   Once I shoe horn myself in the airplane is very comfortable to sit in. Was a good trip and looking forward to Enid!

Thanks for the report Mike. Sometime if you want to find your way up to Grand Junction, come on over. Sounds like you have your ride tuned up and ready to go to Enid. It will be good to see you there. I know the original builder (Bob Farnum) of your plane quite well and I am sure he is happy to have it flying with a grateful and capable new owner/pilot.

Cheers,
Jay

Jay,
You’re not to far from me for sure. Bob built a nice plane.  He also helped me out a bunch over the last covid year.  I’ve learned a lot but can always learn more
Hope to see you there in Enid
