Made it home

Jay Scheevel

Hi All,

Just to let you know that I made it home. Saw some massive headwinds both days, so progress was slow. The only place it was not windy was at my home field. It is almost always windy there in the afternoon…go figure.

In Laramie Wyoming, wind was 22 knots, gusting to 36. Only about 30 degrees off the runway heading, so not a huge deal. I landed in Walden, Colorado. Pattern altitude is 9200’ MSL. Set my new record for density altitude take off. Was 10,500’ DA.  Had a strong wind down the runway, so 5000’ was about twice what was needed.

Saw another first: While flying west near Steamboat Springs at 12,500’ MSL, I passed a flock of geese flying at my exact altitude and opposite direction! That got my attention, as I have never seen a bird that high, let alone a whole flock.

Thanks again, to Kevin and anyone who helped him put on the show. I had a great time.

Cheers,
